Just wondering if anyone still uses this when they box? also what are the advantages and disadvanteges to it?
The disadvantage is that you get hit a ton and your opponent scores a lot of points. In my opinion, it's not ideal for the amateurs.
so it's better suited for professional boxing then? just wondering since i've only seen a couple of people use this type of defense (joe frazier, archie moore) how about the advantages to it?
Cotto uses it lol, Floyd uses a one arm cross guard. I think Floyds one arm cross guard is a good defense for countering.
Nothing new about the cross-arm defence - Foreman used it when he came back. A variation of the cross-arm is the Philly Shell, as used by Ken Norton, Toney, Mayweather and many others. Can't be all bad.
