Did an amazing job last night. I'm a Froch fan, but in all honesty I thought Bute was too slick for him...I was impressed at his shut out win vs the Road Warrior Glen Johnson. Both guys fought Glenn easily won..but I did find Butes performance really impressive - it wasn't even that competitive a fight. So seeing Butes last 2 or 3 fights I just thought no, he's too slick for Carl..and what did we see!

So what makes Carl Froch so effective? I mean defensively and as a boxer he's not pretty. I never like seeing fighters walking around close quarters to their opponent with their hands by their sides..looks so dangerous and just wrong. Lennox often did it to and I know Lewis was a great fighter n could box clever. But Froch to my eyes looks crude in terms of boxing skills...is it all down to his speed n ferocity and power/combos.and solid chin?

Andre Ward is the only guy to make Froch look ordinary so despite what Froch sometimes looks like in the ring his record speaks for itself. Kessler did rightly win vs Froch as well, just not as clearly as Ward did.

So IMO Froch is crude but his tenacity makes up for what he lacks in slick boxing skills. His most impressive display of boxing skill/defense I saw was against Abraham...he showed he did have some boxing skills, but for me I dont tend to think of him as much of a slick fighter. Discuss chilblains!

Maybe his non slick style makes his opponents look past him thinking it's going to be an easy fight? I dunno man.

EDIT: Sweet avatar by the way!

I think you have a point there.

People don't expect Froch to be as good, I mean most had Bute having every advantage going into last nights fight be it speed, power etc.

Froch looked stronger and just as fast.

Froch is not that bad technically and has excellent chin/stanima/heart with decent power. Also Team Froch are pretty good tactically.

He proved himself to be a good finisher against Taylor & Bute. When he had them hurt he slowed down and pick his punches beautifully.

I think his fight with ward was a great learning experience and made him able to deal with Bute easily.

He keeps improving cause he keeps fighting the best and working hard. Ward might be a great fighter but it is Froch & Kessler that make the divison interesting.

froch is built like a rock, and as such isnt gonna be a slickster and fast mover. On TV he looks very flawed, slow and plodding but as mayweather jr said "its different in the ring"

Considering Bute got Johnson coming off a loss, he was not at his best chosen weight, and he is old as hell, the result of the fight was not very surprising. I have my doubts Johnson is even as young as he says he is. Its difficult to judge a fighter when he is always moved against the most convenient opponent.

No doubt. Signs of a true veteran to not get excited and swing away when the opponent is hurt.
