Cruelty in the boxing ring

Ali's cruelty towards Terrell and Patterson made it really hard for me to muster up any sympathy for him when he, in turn, was tortured by Holmes. Some might contest the charge of cruelty by Holmes, but I believe that it would have been far more merciful to Ali if Holmes had gone all out for a knockout instead of that sustained punishment for 10 rounds.

 

Despicable, disgraceful display of cruelty and disrespect for an opponent from Greg Page. Well, if you believe in "karma", then Page surely got his a little down the road.

 

Excellent find. Covered some important info being this was the postponement of Ali vs Liston2
fight time frame, when Liston was in top shape and many thought Liston had a real good shot to win.

Patterson vs Chuvalo fight was 2/1/65. Ali's friend Malcom X assassinated 2/21/1965.

Nation of Islam with Elijah Muhammad now controlling Ali.

Liston fight now 5/25/65......Patterson fight 11/22/65 (Ironically 2 year Remembrance of JFK 11/22/1963 Assassination)......and Chuvalo fight 3/29/1966.

Ali in the tape predicts he will fight 10 more years....which is pretty close to the end of his 2nd prime.

You can always learn from the past, and see things a little different.

 

I have questioned this interpretation over the years.

The story has always been told by Nova and Arcel, and their voices should be heard.

What would Galento and his supporters say however?

One thing that you get from the local newspapers, is that Galento was countering Nova a lot, and he was basically winning on tactics.
