I can't say for certain that Haye would knock out Patterson (unlike in the case of, say, Foreman, Lewis or Dempsey), but i am picking him. Or i should say: i'd give him a very good chance to win, at least 2:1 odds.
That all depends on how great you beleive Floyd is, record doesnt stand out too much, fought a lot of nobodies and was dropped in plenty of meaningless fights. Its the double standards I dont like, I admit haye weaknesses, they are obvious for all to see but its his strengths which put him ahead of Patterson were they to fight.
whats with these weak double standards. If Pattersons matchmaking was as brave as Hayes he may not even made it to the title. Haye lost to Thompson after 10 fights in a 12 rounder, Thomspson was a world class fighter at the time, and Dave lost to inexperience more than anything else. Old past it Mormeck was undisputed champion, Haye went to France and stopped him, Macca may have been overrated by many but Haye - Maccarinelli was the most exciting match to be made at 200lbs. one thing that David Haye cannot be critised for is his matchmaking. Hayes defence is leaky but cmon so was Floyd, people refer to the 'peak a boo' and an effective manouvre, well maybe with a heavy setted, strong chinned boxer like Tyson, but with a chinny former middleweight/blown up light heavy it was not.:bart
hows mormeck going to do against ingos bingo? or against excellent boxers folley and machen? or against ATG sonny liston? or against ferocious cleveland williams and nino valdez? or against slick lightheavyweights archie moore and harold johnson? not well I suppose. I will go on record saying mormeck doesnt beat any of the above mentioned.
I rate Mormeck he has a tight guard, good head movement, nice compact powerful punches, nice shot picker and good timing. He was giving Haye all kind of problems and wrecking him on the inside and punished Hayes low guard, but didnt have the stamina to finnish Haye off. Prime Mormeck may have drowned Haye, but maybe not I reckon he'd nick a couple of wins agains the forementioned, hes a top level fighter. But we are comparing apples and oranges. Haye/Mormeck are Roided fighters, the 50s cats didnt have those advantages
This would be a repeat of Liston vs Patterson. Haye would banjo this guy out early. Haye hits much, much harder than Liston.
I am moved...I deeply appeciate your honesty, and respect you for making a post that we can all agree with!
I see that you have not denied that you think Ali had more power than The Hayemaker. I am not surprised. You haven't fooled Duffy by dodging the question.
Ali had better speed, reflexes, stamina reach. Ali and Floyd could go 15 rd Haye can barely go 12. Against Chisora he looked like he ran a marathon gasping for breath minute after the 5 rd, gassed out against Thompson. Haye only has a punchers chance. Dont think he could take a clean kidney punch with his flawless physique too which were allowed then.
Good match-up to be honest. Haye is 2-3" taller with about a 5" reach advantage. Even at 198 Lbs he'd look considerably bigger than a 192 Lb Patterson. At CW Haye was down vs. Lolenga Mack but won by 4th round KO. He was down and stopped by Carl Thompson, LKOby5. He was down by Jean Marc Mormeck but won by 7th round KO. At HW he was down vs. W. Klitschko and lost by decision. He's currently 26-2 (24) overall, 2-1 (2) in CW World title fights (counting the IBO loss to Thompson), and 3-1 (2) in HW World title fights. 5-2 (4) in World title fights is impressive. He's beat World champs Arthur Williams KO3, Mormeck, Maccarinelli KO2, Valuev W12, and Ruiz KO9. He's also beat Monte Barrett KO5, Audley Harrison KO3, and Dereck Chisora KO5. He is in his prime right now. Patterson beat some good fighters as well. He beat Yvon Durelle W8 and KO5, Tommy Jackson W12 and KO10, Archie Moore KO5, Roy Harris KO12, Brian London KO11, Johansson KO5 and KO6 (Johansson won their first fight, KO3), Eddie Machen W12, George Chuvalo W12, Henry Cooper KO4, and Oscar Bonavena W10 among others. He drew with Jerry Quarry when he was 100 years old. He lost very close decisions to Jerry Quarry and Jimmy Ellis when he was 137 years old. He was robbed vs. Joey Maxim in just his 14th pro fight. 55-8-1 (40) overall, 8-5 (8KO) in HW World title fights. He was stopped 5 times. He was stopped by Liston x2 (KO1 x2) and Ali x2 (LKOby12 and LKOby7 in his last pro fight).
So, Patterson vs. Haye... 200 Lb limit? I'd love to pick Patterson but I'm going with Haye by late round TKO.
