The TKO thing looked shady to me, a DQ would have been something else, but still harsh. Imagine if a few important people had money on an over/under bet...
Looks like Alante Green (a USA Cruiserweight prospect I've written a few posts about in this thread) will be back in action on March 4th against Samuel Clarkson. The Cruiserweight scene in N. America is pretty poor at the moment - but I'm a bit disappointed with that choice. Clarkson's 22-6-1 record looks OK at first glance - but he's been stopped four times. A couple of losses were to Ryad Merhy and Dimitri Bivol - which are reasonable (though they indicate that Clarkson is probably more of a LHW) - but his most recent stoppage was by Israel Duffus - who is barely gatekeeper-level. And his most recent fight ended in a Draw against Deon Nicholson...who isn't up to much So this opponent is not a step up from Taylor Duerr and quite limited. To keep his momentum going, I think Alante needs to stop him in the front half of the fight.
I'm posting this more for "entertainment purposes"...because it certainly made me laugh out loud. Donnie Palmer - he of "gone in 35 seconds against Joe Joyce" fame - is scheduled to fight again in Melrose, Massachusetts USA on February 19, 2022! The opponent is still TBA. Right off the top... The way COVID cases are surging in the NE USA right now - there's a good chance that a mid-Feb. event will be cancelled outright. The card features eleven fights - which is ridiculous. So even the promoters recognize that at least some of those fights can't/won't be made. Donnie was last seen mounting an ultimately unsuccessful challenge for a seat on the Boston City Council. So if the fight actually happens...what would be next for Donnie P? (Let's assume the eventual selected opponent is helpless and Donnie gets past him). My guess would be that he becomes an opponent for either Niall Kennedy (who I'd bet that Murphy Boxing Promotions is still willing to handle given his popularity around Boston) or Sean Bey (a New England HW prospect who is also on the same card and who had fought the likes of Marcus Browne and Caleb Plant as an amateur...but not, IMO, destined to be anything special). Failing that...the logical assumption is that he will be Ivan Dychko's 12th opponent
Simon Kean has been added to the Ulysse Jr/Moran, Makhmudov/Wach card in Montreal on January 22nd. As yet, no opponent has been named. I think Simon Kean would be an excellent "next opponent" for Makhmudov should both of them win their bouts. Simon's career has stalled and he needs to take a risk to get noticed in a crowded field of HWs. Makhmudov certainly constitutes "a risk".
Briedis continues to fight the best he can get in front of him. Every fighter's good run comes to an end, but if he can get past Opetaia, I hope Okolie is next!
I don't think Keans team would be up for that. He should try to get Babic or Kownacki, those would be a fun fights.
