Back 2014-2015 I was pretty high on Meehan, he very obviously had a lot of raw talent, but he's never fully dedicated himself to boxing. In that 7-8 years he hasn't developed that the ways he could have.
Haha fair enough. No doubt Hearn will tell people that he gave your team a career high payday or something along those lines.
That's a matchup with some nice upside potential for Wardley. It took Jared Anderson 6 rounds to stop Ibeh. Kingsley will be coming into this fight only having fought a couple of easy-touch opponents since that stoppage - so I think the chances are probably pretty good that Wardley can get Ibeh out of there before Rd 6 and build a bit of buzz for himself.
Brandon Glanton (15-0-0) will face off against DeShwon Webster (12-5-3) in a fight on the same card. Not much forward progress there for Glanton - especially considering his suprise SD win over Apochi last year. It may seem like a long time ago, but at the time Apochi had been the most dangerous-looking CW active in the West Hemisphere for several years! Webster has fought a lot of respectable/decent CWs but didn't really shine in any of those fights. He has already reached his ceiling. Webster was quickly stopped (Rd 2) in his previous fight against Kristian Prenga, so it will be disappointing if Glanton cannot produce a similar result.
Kingsley Ibeh will not be Fabio Wardley's opponent on July 9th. Apparenty, that's been know for more than one week but Matchroom was content to let the press publish the matchup until this morning. No word on who Wardley will actually fight.
Two well-connected sources now telling me that discussions for Jared Anderson's next opponent were centering around Bermaine Stiverne or (surprise!) Eric Molina...at least that was the talk just before the 4th of July holiday. Still time for that to change (I hope!)
Whyte busy raking about in bins no doubt. Should give Gorman a call but his boy ain't ready the Gypsy Butterbean.
USA/PR Cruiserweight propsect Najee Lopez upped his record to 5-0 (5 KOs) with a 3rd round stoppage of Jeysson Monroy on June 24th. Lopez scored 2 knockdowns in Rd 2 and Monroy was forced to give up on his stool at the conclusion of the 3rd round due to internal bleeding in an eye. Monroy came into the fight sporting a "sparse" record of 1-0 (1 KO) but he had participated in the 2012 Olympics as a HW (200 lbs) representing Columbia. Apparently, Monroy had been going back and forth between several combat sports disciplines since the London games and had only made his return to boxing shortly before fighting Lopez. As I think I"ve commented before...Lopez's biggest immediate challenge might be getting decent step-up fights given the generally-poor quality of the crusiserweight division in the entire Western Hemisphere.
Wardley should be fighting Gorman next...unless the BBBofC pulls some funny stuff. Not that that would ever happen...right? Wardley weighted in at 235 lbs for this fight...so, thankfully, it doesn't appear that his love of Five Guys hamburgers has completely overcome his restraint yet.
For me, it's more like "Haha, Don King" because both Stiverne and Molina still have ties to the Don. But I guess you play the "Anderson faces former Champ" or "Anderson faces 2x title challenger" angles.
I mean Stiverne at least put up what resistance he could in his last fight. Molina is just looking for good spot on the canvas to take a nap.
So Dmitry Kudryashov vs. Viacheslav Datsik is apparently in the works for sometime this year? @ForemanJab @Francis75 @f1ght3rz @mirkofilipovic @IntentionalButt This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected https://www.tellerreport.com/sports...cavalari-by-tko-in-40-seconds.H1Ic8r0DNc.html Sign me up for that one. With all of the dumb social media/celebrity fights that are very much in vogue today, Datsik who has always been a wild freakshow being matched in odd fights seems far more organic, and in line with the ethos of underground fighting in the late 90s/early 00s. I don't expect him to last long here, but who knows.... It's HW boxing, and Kudryashov isn't exactly the most durable, or hardest to hit - Plus Datsiks craziness and often complete disregard for rules is an x factor to consider.
Not that it was occupying much real estate on our radar screens, anyhow, but the Devin Vargas-Kimbo Bethel Boykin fight has been scratched from the July 22nd "Mike Tyson 2" fight card in Albany. At the moment Feliz Jr is still scheduled to fight on the card, but his opponent remains "TBA" with only two weeks to go.
