It's pretty hypocritical of them to do this. About five years ago the BBBofC sanctioned a fight between Gary Cornish and Sam Sexton. Cornish had suffered a brain bleed from his fight with AJ and a recent CT scan had indicated that his condition remained dangerous. Nevertheless, they let the fight to ahead. Fortunately, Cornish survived the fight without incurring serious harm (though he lost) and retired a few months afterwards.
Wallin gave Fury a fair bit of trouble (mostly due to inflicting that cut) and it's possible that AJ could catch and stop Wallin - who's not much of a puncher - and make Fury look bad by comparison. But Wallin is proficient enough to give AJ problems, too. Maybe not enough to win a decision (that would be asking a lot from the judges, anyhow) - but he could hurt AJ's reputation further. So it's not 100% risk-free. But at this point - if AJ can't put away Wallin - he's certainly got no claim on getting a championship fight.
One-time prospect Mladen Miljas (13-0-0) resumed his HW career by stopping Devinson Guerra (who has been stopped by Joel Shojgreen amongst others) in Round 2 of their October 16th fight. The 6' 6" Miljas just turned 30 years-old, so there is still time for him to make a go of it.
Sonny Conto's (10-0-0) October 29th opponent has finally been confirmed as James Bryant (6-1-0). Disappointing choice. The 36 year-old 6' 3" Bryant has been inactive for about 2 1/2 years prior to this fight and seems likely to be quickly dispatched. I can't get into Boxrec right now, so I can't tell you much about the opponents that Bryant had been fighting. In any case, it seems safe to say that Conto is far down on Bob Arum's list of pirorities.
A post detailing some upcoming fights concerning "heavyweights of interest" (e.g. Junior Fa, Simon Kean, Dacarree Scot, etc.) https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...t-norman-neely-sonny-conto-all-return.694121/
His record - so far - is certainly padded with club fighter-level nobodies. But I don't think he's really been tested yet.
Richard Torrez Jr has been added to the undercard of the October 29th Vasiliy Lomachenko vs Jamaine Ortiz fight. His opponent is TBD. We're only 8 days away from this fight, so expect another mismatch.
Woods back in action in December, he will fight undefeated Hungarian turned miami man Istvan Bernath. Bernath is 10-0 8 KOs and appears to have a long amateur career, though looking at box rec most of the big names he fought he lost to (did beat recent Kownacki beater Ali Demirezen in the amateurs). Bernath like seemingly every heavyweight prospect is 33 years old already so time to move quickly from the Woods' of the world and onto tougher competition.
This reminded me of Joe Mesi who I think retired undefeated due to brain issues which could potentially be fatal if he continued. Personally, I think Oscar Rivas should call it a day due to retina issues. I had a tear in my right retina (not detached) and that was pretty concerning. I think Rivas has issues with both eyes.
Good matchup. I know Jermaine Franklin isn't a top heavyweight despite his record, but neither is Dillian Whyte. Franklin probably has a better chin. Jermaine Franklin (21-0, 14 KOs) Fabio Wardley will face Nathan Gorman for the vacant British heavyweight title on the undercard. This content is protected
