True. Still I was looking at videos from this Nigerian guy and he looks scary as ****. Good speed, good stance, good height and great power. Needs to work on his footwork. We'll see how it goes.
Raphael Akpejiori is not a weak opponent. He's the size of Tyson Fury and a huge puncher, with a lot of first round KOs. Like Makhmudov, he's been avoided. This is a high-risk, low-reward fight for Makhmudov, who has world-class power but isn't difficult to hit. This content is protected
He may be big and hit hard but he's also extremely slow, sloppy, and has zero defense. Makh is going to dispatch him very early in extremely brutally fashion. No issues with this fight though. Just want to see Makh active and crossing fingers that he steps in with a top 10 opponent next year.
It's worth nothing that Akpejiori's previous fight was against Terrell Jamal Woods. Akjejiori more or less swept all 8 rounds to win a dominant UD victory - but he couldn't stop Woods inside the distance. I've got a healthy respect for Woods - but a truly dangerous dangerous fighter should be able to stop him inside of 8 rounds Makhmudov also isn't much for defense and isn't the quickest of hand or foot, either, but I think he's going to stop Akpejiori in the first half of the fight.
Turns out Jerrell Miller's reported November 4th fight in Tanzania against Awadh Tamim was never really on and was just a scheme by a local promoter. Supposedly Miller will be fighting in Las Vegas in December.
Guido Vianello earned a UD victory in an 8 round fight with Jay McFarlane held on October 26th in Rome, Italy. Vianello (now 10-0-1) more or less dominated the fight but couldn't quite stop McFarlane (now 13-7-0) inside the distance. While McFarlane seems to be an OK journeyman in a general sense, he had been stopped by UK prospect Nick Campbell in Februrary. So once again Vianello isn't looking as dangerous as hoped.
Simon Kean will face Nagy Aguilera on December 16. https://boxrec.com/en/event/863477 I remember when a young Aguilera knocked out Oleg Maskaev back in 2009. But Aguilera is still just age 36 and holds the WBA Fedecentro Heavy title. Kean will probably receive a WBA ranking if he wins.
Fast Eddie Chambers is making a comeback. He will end a 6 1/2 year retirement on December 3rd against 5-5 2 KOs journeyman Tyler Canning. Chambers turned 40 this year and was last seen losing a wide decision to Gerald Washington over 8 rounds in 2016.
Kean is being co-promoted by Top Rank for this event - so...yes...Kean could pick up a WBA ranking if he prevails. Aguilera was outmatched by Frank Sanchez a couple years ago, but he's decent if he's in shape and promises to stick around awhile in the fight.
I remember that fight....it was a notably boring one. It was shortened from 10 rounds to 8 - without the Chambers camp ever being informed about it. Most probably, somebody was worried about Washington's poor gas tank. I've heard that Chamber's opponent will actually be Elvis Moyo (9-6-2). Eddie Chambers has been hosting a boxing podcast recently and he's very active on Twitter. He has yet to tweet about his upcoming fight.
Since nobody has mentioned it here... Richard Torrez moved to 4-0 (4 KOs) on October 29th by way of a 3rd round TKO of Ahmed Samir Hefny (who drops to 13-3-0). Hefny was down a few times prior to the stoppage. He didn't show much in the way of offense but gave a masterclass in holding his opponent. The referee showed his appreciation of Hefny's artistry by docking him a point late in the second round.
