Jarrell Miller went the distance with Antonio Zepeda in their exhibition bout on the undercard of the Mayweather Farce. He weighed in at 325lbs, apparently it was a snooze fest.
Undefeated but unheralded Dane Kem Ljungquist will be taking on Johnny Muller next on 10/7, according to boxrec. I've never seen Kem fight, but Muller is one of those guys I have taken a liking to, because, while he has settled into his role as journeyman, he has managed wins over Kevin Lerena and Matuesz Masternak. Even if I am not sure how deserved they were, he is exactly the kind of unsung hero gatekeeper the sport needs. I will be rooting for him, even if I am by myself.
I hope Zhan wins, but in Anderson's home town the deck will be stacked against him. Arum will no doubt have a dodgy referee in there to help his investment, so I expect a unfair stoppage. And if it goes the distance, the judges will give it to the hometown boxer even if he clearly loses.
I said awhile back that Anderson was prolly gonna get a wake up call one day because he lets himself get hit an awful lot. I got a feeling this could be when it happens. Not to say he'll definitely lose, but unless he's been working on his defense that chin is really gonna be put to the test, and I could at least see him suffering from an early scare. Assuming he doesn't get Zhan out of there before then, which is never beyond the realm of possibility in boxing. And of course there's the unfortunate possibility of an early stoppage. I don't really lean one way or the other, but I'm gonna guess it goes on longer than his average fight because he gets caught with something and that makes him more cautious than usual.
Zhan has a tall order in front of him. Fighting in Andersons home town as a dreaded Eastern European/Eurasian he will never get a decision as we have seen over the past month. I would like to see him hammer Anderson, and will be rooting for him to do so.
