IIRC, they tried to do something similar with Kovalev and Stevenson back in the day....I can't think of any other example. Seems like Opetaia can't catch a break. This whole thing has turned into quite the pickle.
Ivan Dychko taking on Harvey Dykes (7-0-1) June 6 in Bournemouth Bryant Jennings back again June 14 against Robert Simms, 12-6-1.
Dychko will win that fight, then take another year off. Dychko and Jennings should fight in September, if both win. Won't happen of course, makes too much sense.
Roman Fress and Armend Xhoxhaj just fought to a draw in their WBO cruiserweight eliminator streaming from Germany. Xhoxhaj is the only "L" on Fress's resume, from 2022, and he kinda has Fress's number. He dropped a careless, overconfident and physically far more impressive Fress in R1 with a temple shot (shades of AJ-Ruiz 1) and proceeded to dominate most of the subsequent 8 rounds. Fress came alive in the 10th and dominated the last 2 rounds, but Xhoxhaj clearly was well ahead on points IMHO. It was a hometown crowd for Fress and the judges gifted him; Xhoxhaj was understandably peeved.
