Russian cruiserweight Dmitry Kudryashov (23-2) is the new mandatory challenger for European champ Yves Ngabu (20-0) from Belgium, The parties are now free to enter negotiations. Belgian heavyweight Hervé Hubeaux (30-3) is the new mandatory challenger for the vacant EU title along with Petar Milas (16-0). Deadline for purse bids or agreements is May 8.

Matchroom Boxing has signed two-time Chinese Olympian Zhilei Zhang to a co-promotional deal that give him a solid heavyweight to mix and match against some of his other talented fighters in his stable. Zhang, 35, almost beat Anthony Joshua in the 2012 Olympics in losing a narrow 15-11 score. Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn revealed the news of Zhang’s signing on IFL TV. The unbeaten Zhang (20-0, 16 KOs) will be added to this month’s card Lucas Browne vs. David Allen card on April 20 at the O2 Arena in London, England. The potential opponent for the 6’6″ southpaw Zhang is journeyman Tom Little (10-7, 3 KOs).
Their promoters – Kathy Duva (Kovalev) and Frank Warren (Yarde) – are hopeful that they’ll come to an agreement before a purse bid scheduled for Monday. They’ve discussed the possibility of Kovalev and Yarde squaring off as early as June 1 and as late as June 22 or June 29.

Mexican Mario Heredia (16-6-1, 13 KOs) won a rather unexpected victory in a fight with former WBC heavyweight champion Samuel Peter (37-7, 30 KOs), defeating him by a split decision. Peter, 38, started the fight quite well, and in the third round sent his 26-year-old opponent to the knockdown with a right hook, after which he shook his right uppercuts several times, but young Heredia survived, and in the second half of the fight he just reworked the Nigerian. Following eight rounds of battle, the judges' opinions on the winner were divided - one of them gave the victory to Samuel Peter with a score of 79:72, and the other two gave Mario Heredia with a score of 77:74 and 76:75.
