Everyone on ESB knows the Ding A Ling Man is a top cruiserweight contender and can KO anyone he hits cleanly. But there is a cruiserweight out of Motown that is worth mention and would make a great fight with Ding. His name is Johnathon (that's how it's spelled) Banks. He's is a 6'3, 24 year old puncher. It would another instant classic. I'd have to lean Ding's way because of the beard. Banks was rocked badly in his win over Eliseo Castillo but it would still be a compelling fight. Emanuel Steward handles Banks and he does have decent boxing skills to go along with his power. What's the concensus on this great potential match-up?
Hard to say. The only opponent Banks has faces of any note is Castillo. And if Castillo rocked him, well you have to think Ding would seriously...ding him.
Jonathan Banks is a very good fighter that is not mentioned much here. I think he is one look for with his good boxing ability and knockout power. FACT: This is one of the fighters who wouldn't fight Nwodo even in his own backyard, and it was two different times he was offered the fight. Emmanuel Steward turned it down after seeing tapes on Nwodo.
I'm sort of biased towards Banks to win...but Ding definetly can't be ruled out.Castillo did stun Banks, but I think that had alot more to do with nerves and the fact that it was his first TV spot.Once he survived the first he owned every minute of that fight until the KO.
I can't say I blame Steward for that one- Nwodo's not the kind of guy your inexperienced (against good pro competition) fighter should be looking at at that stage in his career. Banks is definitely a quality prospect, but it will likely take another year or two before he becomes a real player in the very deep Cruiserweight division. I think the Castillo fight, even though Banks won, was a sign that maybe he was being pushed a little too quickly- which is why his opponents since then have all been a couple levels below that.
