Just wanted to add that I think the current landscape of the heavyweight division could lead to more talented smaller heavies making them move down to cruiser thus adding even more talent tothe division
HELL TO THE NO THATS BULL HE JUST DIDNT HANG ABOUT ONCE HE WAS AT THE TOP OF TH CW DIVISION fragomeni went on to win a WBC title and was much better when he faced Haye. macca after five worlt title fights including a good win against braithwaite. Mormeck after wins to Bell and A Prime Braithwaite And unified the division. Short but sweet
looks like Francisco Palacios was made the mandatory to face Krzysztof Wlodarczyk http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/wbc-clears-up-title-situation-55308
**Update on prospects** Lebedev - still top of the chain, beat Alexeev and scheduled to fight Huck Alexander Frenkel - destroyed Enzo Mecca. Mateusz Masternak - picked up several more solid wins against limited opposition, I think he's rdy for a big name Francisco Palacios - should be fighting Krzysztof Klodarczyk for a title...around April?? Alexeez - brutally KO'ed by Lebedev Pawel Kolodziej - beat John McClain, still needs a proper test against a solid opponent Lateef Kayode - powerful, picked up some nice KO's against limited opposition Grigory Drozd - inactive over a year Yoan Pablo Hernandez - inactive Ran Nakash - still hasn't fought anyone worth mentioning Carlos Negron - have not seen him fight, undefeated, limited opposition
I realize the original post was from several months ago, but since I didn't chime in then, here's my general opinions on the cruiserweight prospects: - I favor Lebedev to beat Huck. I like Lebedev a lot. - Lateef Kayode is starting to look like the real deal. He has some big defensive flaws, and sometimes he loops his punches too much, but how he fights now compared to how he fought when he first teamed up with Freddie Roach is like night and day. If he keeps making that kind of progress, he could be a top cruiserweight for a long time. Probably doesn't have the body for heavyweight though. - Alexeev looked really good at one point, but his chin is beyond questionable, and he seems to have had trouble extending his stamina to adjust to the pro game. He's probably a bust at this point. - I've seen Kolodziej and Masternak on Polsat a few times, and I don't remember being particularly impressed with either one of them. They could probably fight at the world level, but they're about on the same level as guys like BJ Flores and Steve Herelius to me. - Hernandez is a quality talent, but he's mistake prone and has a shaky chin. He's the kind of guy I could see pulling off some really great wins, then getting upset by a nobody. - Palacios seems ordinary to me. Padded record, will lose when he steps up. - Carlos Negron might have something there. Dude is freakishly tall and very awkward. It's hard to tell at this point whether he'll be able to have success or learn to fight tall, but he's someone to keep an eye on at least. - Frenkel and Drozd are both pretty good. Big punchers, not spectacular boxers, but fundamentally sound. Drozd isn't nearly active enough these days. I don't see either of them approaching the level of the top guys, but they could be solid top 10 types and claim a belt at some point. - Rakhim Chakhkiev is looking really good so far. He has the power, skills and talent to go very far. Then again, the same could have been said about Alexeev a few years ago. It has yet to be seen whether he'll develop the stamina for the pro game, and how his chin will hold up against good competition, but he may well be the best of the cruiserweight prospects at the moment.
:thumbsup Thanks for input! agreed
- Lateef Kayode is starting to look like the real deal. I like Masternak more, being the younger, more desciplined fighter
- Palacios seems ordinary to me. Padded record, will lose when he steps up.
I'ld have to disagree, although he has a tough task ahead of him against Wlodarczyk, I could see him making some noise, at the age of 33 he better hurry though
- Carlos Negron might have something there.
