Unless it goes back to being a weight class for 176-199 pounders who come in the ring and fight at that weight.

Why have a division full of 200-215 pounders and call them "cruiserweights"? Lest we forget, Mike Tyson weighed 215 pounds when he fought Larry Holmes. Sonny Liston was 212 pounds when he flattened Williams. Muhammad Ali was 210 pounds when he won the title in 1964 and 215 pounds when he regained the title in 1974. Would anyone say it's "unfair" to put Liston against Zhang or Parker? What about the 1988 Tyson that beat Holmes against Anthony Joshua? Would 210 pound Muhammad Ali be "too little" for the heavyweight division of today?

There's a lot of harshness in this world. Please, remember, that we are all just old chunks of coal who will be diamonds some day.

Problem with those kinds argument, using ATG to show that smaller fighter could compete - is that it's sort of "elitist" and ignores a wider picture.
Boxing is not just about the legendary champions. For many fighters, winning or even just fighting for British and European title is a big achievement. Removing Cruiserweight division would mean that some boxers would be left out because They happend to be of the wrong size. Someone who'd be just too big for Light Heavyweight and didn't have a large frame to build hismelf into a Heavyweight would obviously be at disadvantage against fighters who are not any more skillful, just naturally bigger.
It's true even for the greats. I'm sure some would be able to overcome it and be succesful, with extraordinary talent and more technical style - but does anyone really see Rocky Marciano breaking down fighters 50 pounds heavier than him, one after another, as a consistant modern heavyweight? Maybe He'd be able to make Light Heavyweight, but if not - He just wouldn't be able to showcase his talent on the elite level.

Cruiserweight has great history already and provided some great, legendary fights. It's been a good addition both from the standpoint of fairness and entertainment.
    Beaverweight should go, though.

    Very much this.

Binning the division that delivered Holyfield-Qawi, Breidis-Jai, Toney-Jirov, Huck-Afolabi (all of them) should be abolished because...I forget why, is wrong.

It shouldn't be abolished if the division really was for 176-199 as intended. When Holyfield fought at cruiser, he actually weighed 190 pounds.

No division in boxing is for the weight class as defined by the rules apart from heavyweight. Middleweights always weigh over 160. Bantamweight always weigh over 118. Cruiserweights always weigh over 200lbs.
