Let's say they did a 3rd WBSS. Who would win this tournament: IBF title: Jai Opetaia v Mairis Briedis II v the winner of: WBA title: Arsen Goulamirian v Noel Gevor Mikaelyan WBO title: Lawrence Okolie v Richard Riakporhe v the winner of: WBC title: Ilunga Junior Makabu v Yuniel Dorticos
I'll go: Opetaia beats Bredis again. Gevor beats Goulmirian due to his inactivity (where the **** has he gone?) Okoile defeats Riakphore Dorticos stops Makabu in a war. Semis: Opetaia defeats Gevor in close/ controversial decision. Okoile stops Dorticos/ Final: Okoile beats Opetaia
I mean, probably Okolie, but we don't know enough about any of these guys to say for sure. Even Okolie has never really been thumbed on the chin by a first rate puncher.
Anyone know what the deal is with Goulmirian? Still holds the WBA trinket but hasn't boxed in over 2 and a half years and has nothing scheduled
You forgot the dark horse: Alexei Egorov. I don’t know why the hell he’s been so inactive lately, but he’s supposed to fight Goulamirian for the WBA belt, who I think he’ll beat. Ryad Merhy should definetly be in the tournament also.
Goulamirian and Egorov were supposed to fight in December, but Goulamirian tested positive for Covid and was postponed. Fight is in limbo right now due to the war in Ukraine I think. Merhy signed a three fight deal with RCC Promotions and was supposed to fight Evgeny Tischenko, but alas it was cancelled because of the war.
