yes, they were very close, but canelo clearly did the better work for longer periods of time. if youre gonna win with the jab, you cant let your opponent match you with power shots, i dont care what reputation your jab has.

    Special Attraction fight.

Carlos Zarate vs Alfonso Zamora (April 23, 1977) (10 Rounds Super-Bantamweights)

Round 1: 10-9 Zamora (close, fanman #1 was not treated well by police in riot gear)
Round 2: 10-9 Zamora (very close, great action great fight)
Round 3: 10-8 Zarate (Zarate hurts and drops Zamora, and the writing is on the wall)
    Round 4: TKO

    My Score: 28-28 even (ATOS)

    Official Scores: (N/A)
Winner: By 4th round Technical Knockout, Carlos Zarate.

What a fight, thanks to @OvidsExile for refreshing my memory of this one. Was very much a super fight for the time, both men undefeated and between the 2 they had something like 75 fights with 74 of them by KO. That's incredible, and this fight lived up to the hype. Even the feuding managers of each fighter went at it after the stoppage (with Zamora's father his manager being the instigator) and had to be pulled apart by the same riot gear wearing police. Great, great fight that had everything, and delivered big!

Watched it last night, have seen it before at least twice but it's been so many years since then. It really was a great fight while it lasted. Zamora was as game as they come, and I feel he was just edging the first 2 rounds he just got clipped and couldn't recover Zarate being the explosive puncher he was it's not hard to see why he couldn't.

Salvador Sanchez vs Ruben Castillo (April 12, 1980) (15 Rounds for the WBC Featherweight Title)

Round 1: 10-9 Castillo (Ruben starts very well beating Sanchez to the punch with the jab, and even lands a few lead big shots to win the round comfortably, though it gets heated)
Round 2: 10-9 Castillo (After the exchange after the bell in the 1st this round starts off faster, Sal does better, but Castillo consistently beats him to the punch not just with the jab)
Round 3: 10-9 Castillo (Much better round for Sal who clearly won the 1st half, but Castillo clearly won the second half bigger, and even stunned Sanchez in the closing seconds)
Round 4: 10-9 Sanchez (Sal finally gets the better of the round from start to finish)
Round 5: 10-9 Sanchez (Very close, Sal countering much better clearly wins the 1st half stunning Ruben, Castillo evens the round up, Sal pulls back ahead stunning Ruben at the bell)
Round 6: 10-9 Castillo (Close round, Ruben just edges it)
Round 7: 10-9 Sanchez (Clear round, he's starting to boss the fight now, stuns Ruben again. Does Sanchez ever open his mouth, take a deep breath during a round, crazy cardio)
Round 8: 10-9 Sanchez (Another good round for Sal, he's really starting to put some stank on his shots, Castillo has a good moment in the final 30 seconds but it's not enough)
    Round 9: 10-9 Castillo
    Round 10: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 11: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 12: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 13: 10-9 Castillo
    Round 14: 10-9 Sanchez
    Round 15: 10-9 Sanchez

    My Score: 144-141 Sanchez

Official Scores: (146-142 Sanchez) (145-141 Sanchez) (147-144 Sanchez)
Winner: By Unanimous Decision to retain the WBC Featherweight Championship, Salvador Sanchez.

Great fight, don't have time to go into detail. I'm at work and my relief will be here any minute, and I can't get caught on the work computer again.

"Marvelous" Marvin Hagler vs "Boogaloo" Bobby Watts II (April 20, 1980) (10 Rounds Middleweights)

    Round 1: 10-9 Hagler
    Round 2: TKO

    My Score: 10-9 Hagler

    Official Scores: (N/A)
Winner: By 2nd round Technical Knockout, "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler

Hagler avenges one of the only 2 loses of his career, imo Hagler has only ever lost 1 time and that was to Willie Monroe the first time. Hagler knocked Watts down twice in round two. The second knockdown happened with three seconds remaining in the round. Watts staggered up at the count of eight, then dropped back down on one knee. Under Maine boxing rules, Watts should have been saved by the bell, but the timekeeper didn't to sound the bell when time expired. The referee would go on to rule a TKO for Hagler at 2:59 of the 2nd round, and the chairman of the Maine State Athletic Commission approved the ruling.

    Round 7: 10-9 Spinks
    Round 8: 10-8 Spinks
    Round 9: 10-9 Spinks
    Round 10: 10-9 Spinks

    My Score: 98-91 Spinks

Official Scores: (99-90 Spinks) (98-91 Spinks) (97-92 Spinks)
Winner: By Unanimous Decision, Michael Spinks.

Pretty entertaining fight despite what the score looks like, Sutherland came out for the opening bell fast and swarmed all over Spinks who looked like he had planned to start slowly in this one. For the first 2 rounds all Michael did was cover up while Murray threw punches and winning the rounds on activity. Halfway through the 3rd Spinks starts coming alive and doesn't look back. Sutherland made it a close final round, but Spink's shots were clearly the better.

Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Louis Pergaud (May 11, 1980) (15 Rounds for the WBC Light-Heavyweight Title)

Round 1: 10-9 Saad Muhammad (Close round, Pergaud landed well and fairly often but so did MSM whose shots were harder)
Round 2: 10-9 Saad Muhammad (Another close round, Pergaud was more active maybe even more accurate, maybe his round, but MSM landed some vicious body shots)
    Round 3: 10-9 Saad Muhammad
Round 4: 10-9 Saad Muhammad (MSM landed some huge shots this round, the body work is starting to take effect)
    Round 5: TKO

    My Score: 40-36 (ATOS)

Official Scores: (40-36 x 2 Saad Muhammad) (39-37 Saad Muhammad)
Winner: By 5th round Technical Knockout to retain the WBC Light-Heavyweight Championship, Matthew Saad Muhammad.

Not the normal all action fight of the year contender type Matthew Saad Muhammad fight he usually produces, but they can't all be 5 star ring wars. Nasty body shot stoppage though, you could see on Pergaud's face how bad that one hurt.

George Groves vs. James DeGale 12 Rounds @ Super Middleweight. May 21, 2011.

    Round 1 DeGale 10-9
Chunky landed some right hooks, jabs and straight lefts. Easily a DeGale round.
Round 2 Groves 10-9 Groves more aggressive, more active, little landed clean, but Groves landed more.
Round 3 Groves 10-9 Near even round, but Groves let his hands go more, and landed the harder shots.
Round 4 Groves 10-9 George dominated first two minutes with ease, DeGale hurt him with left, but not enough.
Round 5 DeGale 10-9 James takes first two minutes, very little between them, Groves almost steals it with flurry.
Round 6 DeGale 10-9 Nothing round early, Chunky steps on the gas, dominates second half with lefts.
Round 7 Groves 10-9 Nothing round again, GG hyper defensive, GG jabbing, lands one two, near even.
Round 8 DeGale 10-9 Nothing round, both looked at each other, Chunky landed a one two, that's enough.
Round 9 DeGale 10-9 Most action packed of fight, it was fairly even, but James hurt him a few times late.
Round 10 Groves 10-9 Solid Groves round, he landed several one twos, combos and jabbed the hell out of him.
Round 11 Groves 10-9 Forehead cut & badly gassed, Groves still landed the better counters, and cleaner work.
Round 12 Groves 10-9 Near even round, both men letting hands go, GG better defense, and late flurry wins it.

    115-113 Groves

114-114 is fine as well, with the 7th being the deciding factor.

Why the **** did I watch that again? I had it for Groves the first time I saw it, and I still do, its a pity it took them until the 10th to actually start fighting. The 7th was razor close, both men landed nearly nothing, but the few jabs and a cuffing one two was enough to edge it and probably make it the decisive round. Sure it could be a draw, maybe even 115-113 for Chunky, but nothing all that controversial about the decision. Didn't think so then, and quite frankly I still don't.:deal:
