Max Schmeling vs Mickey Walker (September 26, 1932) (15 Rounds Light-Heavyweights)

Round 1: 10-8 Schmeling (Max had the smaller quicker Walker's timing down almost immediately, & stunned Mickey throughout the 1st with counters finally dropping him late,)

    Round 2: 10-9 Schmeling
(More of the same, Max nailed Mickey with hard flush counter rights ttaking the round. Walker does stage a mini rally in the final 45 seconds)

    Round 3: 10-9 Walker
(Edges the frame by being first and landing his own counter snappy left hook over Max's jab & the uppercut on the inside. By rounds end Max starts to turn the tide again by countering Mick's hook with his lead right.)

    Round 4: 10-9 Walker
(Game as they come, still landing with regularity that snap left hook, now stunns Max on a couple of occasions with blistering combinations. Max keeping himself in the rounds by still landing his crisp right lead.)

    Round 5: 10-9 Walker
(Has the crowd roaring again with his leaping lead left hooks, and a combo that stuns the bigger man (and former Heavyweight Champion of the World) again. Pulling him even on my card after 5 rounds.)

    Round 6: 10-9 Schmeling
(Takes back control of the action with his jab, throwing in the occasional 1-2, by this point heavy swelling has started to close both of Mickey's eyes.)

    Round 7: 10-10 Even

    Round 8: 10-7 TKO

My Score: (77-72 Schmeling ATOS) Round 7 is unavailable.

    Official Scores: (N/A)
Winner: By 8th round Technical Knockout, Max Schmeling.

Schmeling drops Walker 2 more times before the bell rings to end the 8th round with Mickey beating the count. With both eyes swollen shut, and bleeding profusely Jack Kearns (Walker's manager) singles the ref to stop the fight after the end of the 8th round. This was a benifit show for something called "The Milk Fund." Walker (aka The Toy Bulldog) was one badass mother****er though, he was badly hurt and couldn't see out of either eye. Yet everytime he got up he never tried to hold, instead went right back to throwing bombs trying to win against the bigger man & former Heavyweight Champion of the World.

I loved Tim Bradley aa a warrior in the ring, but his commentating makes me cringe so hard my teeth hurt. I liked Greer Jr. coming up as a underdog on ShowBox, but he has regressed or lost confidence in himself and his hands. He started off well, landing power letting his hands go and taking control of the fight for the first 2 rounds. Then came the 3rd round where no major damage was done, but Moloney found his rhythm and took over complete control of the fight. From then on Moloney loaded up on overhand rights and left hooks to the body, where he couldn't miss. Like Greer has a magnet in his jaw for Moloney's right. Too little too late when we entered the final 2 rounds when Greer remembered to work and actually work his way inside with the jab, he had already let Moloney bank too many rounds. Joshua still has some time left in his youth to improve, but at this point it's all about believing in himself and due to that I don't see him getting any farther than this level. It's was like as soon as Moloney started fighting back Greer forgot the gameplan, and had no answers from there.

A perfect example for Rigo, if you want to be defensive and move/avoid getting hit this is how you do it while still being somewhat offensive. Not the best fight to watch & score albeit a damn sight more entertaining than Casimero/Rigondeaux. However Flanagan did own the setting Featherweight Champion of the World, and one of the greatest fighters of all time in this performance.

    My Score: (97-93 Carter)

    Official Scores: (6-3-1 x 3 Carter)
Winner: By Unanimous Decision, Jimmy Carter.

Carter won this fight convincingly imo, he would go on to rematch Bassett just shy of a month later in Percy's hometown of Philly and lose unanimously by the same score. I can't find film of the rematch, but after seeing this one it's hard to believe Carter did a 180 28 days later losing 6-3-1 x 3, but oh well. 2 months later he knocked out ATG Lightweight Champion Ike Williams to win the Lightweight Championship of the World. A little over a year later, after already defending the title against Lauro Salas just 1 month prior, he lost the title in a split decision to the same man. However 5 months later he regained the crown from Salas in a landslide decision, He held the crown until March 1954 when he lost the title a second time, this time to Paddy DeMarco, but again 6 months later he got his rematch & pummeled DeMarco for 15 rounds stopping him in the 15th to regain the Lightweight Championship of the World for a second time. Carter would go on in his next defense to lose the title by split decision to Wallace Bud Smith, a man Carter had defeated many years prior. Jimmy lost the rematch convincingly, and would never challenge for the championship again. But from 1951-1955 he was the man in a time of great Lightweights.

Winner: By Split Decision, to retain the Welterweight Championship of the World, Kid Gavilan!

Talk about a fantastic championship fight, bursting with action, skill & marred in controversy. For it's time, and for a long time to follow this result was widely considered one of the worst decisions of all time. I watched the fight close and do agree Graham should have won the title on the night, but I've seen far worse robberies. Still a great fight, totally worth the time featuring 2 amazing operators at the top of their game, or at least appeared to be, The Kid didn't throw his signature Bolo Punch with near the regularity he normally did. Whether that was because of injury or just hesitant of Graham's counterpunching ability, Billy wasn't the biggest puncher so his power couldn't have been the issue for Gavilan who had only been knocked off his feet once in his career to this point, and was never stopped in 143 official fights.

Winner: By 10th Round Technical Knockout to regain the Middleweight Championship of the World, Sugar Ray Robinson!

Ray had no trouble getting off this time around, he didn't let Turpin use his roughhouse tactics that worked so well for him the first time around either. Ray was pretty much in control from the opening bell until he really caught the champ clean in the 10 round and put Turpin away to regain his crown. Long live the King!

What a fight! Back & forth, hard to pick a winner in a few of these rounds. Namely 1, 5, 6 & 8. Having anywhere from a draw to 6-4 either way would get no complaint from me.

    _Round 1: 10-9 Usyk
    _Round 2: 10-9 Glowacki
_Round 3: 10-9 Usyk (very good statement round for Usyk after getting a bit bullied the previous round)
    _Round 4: 10-9 Usyk (competitive)
_Round 5: 10-9 Glowacki (good round for the champ, landed heavy & often, surprisingly)
_Round 6: 10-9 Usyk (good stuff. Glowacki is not here to lay down for sure)
_Round 7: 10-9 Usyk (starting to befuddle the champion now with his movement & workrate)
    _Round 8: 10-9 Usyk
    _Round 9: 10-9 Usyk
Round 10: 10-9 Usyk (looked like a boss)
Round 11: 10-9 Usyk (big round)
Round 12: 10-9 Usyk (great round)

My Score: (118-110 Usyk) 117-111 is fine, stretching it I could live with 116-112 Usyk.

    Official Scores: (119-109 Usyk) (117-111 x 2 Usyk)

Great fight despite the score, that bit in the 12th where their feet got tangled & Usyk went down Glowacki stood over him and rained down 3-4 big punches while Usyk was down yet referee Byrd didn't do a damn thing not even a warning. Shameful, and his wife maybe the worse judge in the world at the moment was somehow also assigned to this fight wth

Great fight! Mchunu gave Usyk fits early, but once he figured out the squat South African's timing Oleksandr went through the gears and put away the challenger mid/late on in the contest.
