After a 60 year ban of professional boxing the country is finally allowing their fighters to compete professionally. This content is protected
Finally some competition. May force USA to churn out some good boxers in order to be able to compete.. Or at least not get schooled by Cuban slicksters
It would be good for professional boxing if it weren't for the 60-year ban. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_at_the_Summer_Olympics#Medal_table https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIBA_World_Boxing_Championships#All-time_medal_table_(1974–2021) It would be a different boxing history, as we know it.
I'm looking forward more to seeing Julio Cesar La Cruz hopefully he still has a couple years of prime left.
This is Great news for boxing, it will get way more competitive and there already is handful of Cuban professional boxers that managed to be in the top of their weight division such as Ugas, Ortiz, and etc. Some boxers are going to debut in Mexico (Aguascalientes) next month such as Julio Cesar La Cruz, Arlen Lopez, Roniel Iglesias and possibly Andy Cruz. Hopefully this might start a rivalry like Puerto Rico vs Mexico.
So it sounds like they are going to hold a few closely controlled prize fights, rather than just letting their guys be pros and do their thing the way Ugas or Ortiz are doing? Seems like it's a fundraiser rather than a real change. From reading the article, it sounds like they just set up a few events to dip their toes in the water.
That guy is a dancer not a fighter hes sure to stink up the joint wherever he fights. Andy Cruz is the guy i really want to see hes an awesome boxer with slick skills and a pleasing style.
Best thing that could happen to boxing. TONS of talent entering in the sport. In terms of fighers and in terms of trainers too. Awesome!!
