There is consistency that they produce very well schooled amateurs. The question is if they keep fleeing the country and don't get ''weak'' in a capitalist world (e.g. Solis was/is a big talent but look what happened).

Actually only Rigondeaux is a Super Bantamweight, Gamboa, Vazquez and Marquez are Featherweights.

Friendly boxing rivalry may be. People rivalry, I don't think so. May be between uneducated cubans and uneducated Puerto Ricans, but most people knows better. You will never find people so similar as cuban and puerto ricans. Our history is too long, our association too deep. As a matter of fact Puerto Rico is working real hard right now so Cuba will participate in Centroamerican Games in Mayaquez, Puerto Rico. Its difficult because Puerto Rico is USA teritorry and the cuban government don't trust the americans. Both islands are working hard to make it possible. Puerto Rico really wants to have the cubans there. :deal:deal

This getting weak you are talking about is very important. You see, when you make the national team in Cuba, you eat and breath boxing. The main reason Cubans look so good in the olimpics is because their training regime allow the cubans to have at least twice the experience other nations have. Boxing is more than a sport there, is a way of living, is a social status, and is a way out. I can give you two very good examples of how different things are in other places. Carlos "El indio" Quintana was working at a gas station at the same time he was training for a world title bout. Or John John Molina, who worked for the Puerto Rico Telephone company during his whole pro career. Is not so easy to dedicate yourself to the gym when you have bills to pay.

    Possibly.......

Gamboa is definitely a more athletically talented fighter.....

Lopez has that Boricua pedigree, punching power and accuracy a la Tito Triinidad.....

i cant wait and I will stand by Lopez to knock him the **** out

I do hope we can see more Cubans in the pro's. I love the PR vs Mex rivalry, and wouldn't mind to see "Los Cubanos" give them a run for their money. We have already seen a wave of Pinoy fighters taking on the PR's and Mexicans and looking like a promising rivalry.

I remember when the Kazak's broke out into the boxing scean years back. They took plenty of medals in the amatures and Olympics producing fighters like Vassily Jirov & Kid Diamond. But havn't seen anymore from that nation.

The more nations that get involved in boxing, the better for us as boxing fans.
