    They are.

There have been regular pro shows in China over the last couple of years.

Word is there are not to many stand outs so far but I imagine after the olympics we might see some talent coming out.

I think India is also a nation that has been falling under the radar, their international amateur sucess is starting to get a little better. They could bring some good fighters to the table soon.

Cuba has the highest ratio of Olympic medals per person. For a third world communist country that's almost unbelievable which goes to tell you how great their athletic programs are especially their boxing program. Baseball talents like Jose Canseco, chess champions like Jose Raul Capablanca, and of course the greatest Olympic boxer of all time Felix Savon all came from Cuba.

Cubans have been sorely missed at pros(except from the ones that has deflected). I'd rather have them representing some Cuban teams.

Edit, Cuba is 2nd world, not third world.

I've always wondered what made cubans so good. Whenever I watched olympics, I almost always see a Cubano in contention for the gold, way more than Mexicans which made me wonder. Also, a lot of Khazaks in the lower levels too so does Communism make you a better boxer? Die Capitalist pigs (this is a joke btw, don't take me seriously.) Zig heil!

It does not cost much to train proper boxers. They have trainers that are not allowed to leave and HAVE to teach and they are good at it. Alot of these guys would probably like to retire but can't.

Many communist countries tend to focus on sports as a way of national pride. If you look at the former Soviet Union, that's what they did. Look at East Germany also. I guess the Soviets used this to instill some self-esteem in their population despite the fact that communism couldn't offer the luxuries and amenities that capitalistic countries could offer.

Okay, most communist countries get dubbed as 2nd. world, whereas non-communist countries that aren't 1st. world get dubbed as 3rd. world. If I went to Russia or Cuba, I don't think it would be that much different from Mexico, Brazil, or the Philippines.

I dobut were are going to see Cuba allow it's athletes boxers and other sports as well to go pro anytime soon. I wish this was not the case as the Cuban boxing system pruduces some very will trained boxers. However Raul Castro who is now in charge interduced his brother Fidel to Commusium. So I dobut that we will see a policy change any time soon.
As for overall olympic secuess not only in boxing. This is the result of the system that keeps Cuban athletes from becoming pro athletes and truly competing at the highest levels of their sports. In the case of the sports Cuba is most known for baseball and boxing. No level of amatuer compotition Pan Am Games, World Championships or Olympics comes close to the level of comption the athlets of their skills and talent would face as pros. (the baseball world cup may be the exception if major leaguers are used.)
I hope we see more Cubans in profisional boxing I just don't see it hapening soon.

O they can leave Thailand has two gold medals because a CUban coach trains the boxing team. And there are more countries that do well at Olympic boxing because of that, Venezuela too.

I think if it wasn't for the embargo (which causes the poverty in Cuba) Cuba should/could have been a first world country.
Can you imagine, a communist first world country!

the embargo is not the cause of poverty..its the system itself.
Communism had proved to be a disaster in economic terms,we all should know it.
