So the dude's gay??? Lol, I guess not many people have the guts to call him "maricón" in his face anyway.
At age 18 in 1997, Ruslan Chagaev defeated Savon and then defeated him again in 1999. Chagaev is very underrated, although he has faded since his fight with Wladimir.
****, imagine if that did happen and him and Tyson fought. Tyson by verbal destruction in the press conferences.
Yeah, I can just imagine Tyson saying, "I'll f**k you till you love me, ***git." And Savon saying, "My room number is on the third floor." Ewww!!!!!!!!
Guys, Chagaev was a good amateur but he wasn't near Felix Savon. Not even at the tail end of Savon's career where their fights took place. Savon beat Chagaev pretty convincingly in the quarters in Houston before losing the final to Michael Bennet. Savon then went on to stop Bennet on his way to gold in Sydney whereas Chagaev again lost in the quarter finals.
They should be ALL GOLDs, in the Houston event there was lotta politics & hatred involved against the cuban team.
Him and stevenson are the best amateur heavyweights in history. How good wouldve they been in the pros well who knows is all guessing but both had the size, style and punching power to make it in the pros. Both savon and stevenson were like 6'5" and athletic with long arms. All they needed was a good promoter and they wouldve made it in the pros. In my opinion savon woudve beated lewis, golota, bowe and the klits in the pros. He was that good as a fighter, especially if he woudlve turned pro after his first world title when he was 19. A lot of his losses were not because of talent but because of his star status and the way he arrived at tournaments unprepared just there to get money and to raise the tournaments reputation. :hat
Savon was 30 years old the first fight and 32 the 2nd and 3rd, in his prime with a decade of World level experience. H2H Chagaev won the series. Spin it however you want but Chagaev> Savon.
Its funny how you have guys on here talking about the fall of the Iron Curtain and its impact on professional boxing. However, they do not mention the greatest boxing nation (at least in the amateur ranks) Cuba . . . I guess they are not Eastern European enough for them!
