Why do people say they lie about their age? I heard this constantly with Rigo and Luis Ortiz.

it’s a frequent issues when it comes to Cuban athletes in all sports. Multiple occasions in the MLB where baseball players defected from Cuba shave at least 5 to 7 years to better their chances at getting a huge signing bonus. A substantial amount of teams are more likely to sign a 17-21 yr old prospect with time to develop vs 24-28 whom doesn’t have the time to improve before that age where the skills start to deteriorate.

Also they way these guys look facially and their bodies are consistent with 35+ year old men rather than the 27-30 years that’s reported..

Sounds reasonable, but their official age should be checked somehow by the governing bodies in boxing, so that the ring announcer tells the real age. I mean somewhere the boxer must be registered when turning pro, it's not like they give an imaginary age to themselves...

Nobody wants to invest in an older fighter. Boxing is a young mans game, you want your prospect to be early 20's not late 20's. This guy seems to be honest though.

No one will invest without some proofs. Usually, if the boxer is not star prospect cos ammy perigree, he might be a prospect if had succeful pro fights. It is different stuff to evalue professional boxer, different stuff is to finish someone with 105-10 ammy and 2-0 pro record or someone with 15-25 ammy and 0-2 pro record.
Some prospects apperantly does loose undefeated fights steak when they does have the boxer in the ring or does have controversional, sometimes scanalous win on cards despite earlier had nice row with KOs/TKOs. Doesn't matters age too.

If someone with 4-0-0 and is 21 y.o ofc he does look more promising than someone with 5-0-0 if he is 33 years old, of course. Unless this is large size HW guy, these sometimes gets booked with some 3-0-0 record by decent managers even if they are 34 years old.
