I am huge fan of Cuban boxing! I think that there Amateur system is more adaptable than other (former) communist countries . . . to bad politics robs us of some truly great fighters!

I read this thread and I haven't praise or demerit the Cuban counter punching ability, I just felt the urge to get it on with JRMW because I have read so many of his $h1t that I just can't believe we have fans that blind, finally I just realized he is just a kid maybe 14 or 15 years old, I have kids twice that age...
But this is good, Cubans has been out of the game for too long and is more to come.

The Ricans and Mexicans have been a " free " Nation to participate in any pro sports since eternity while the Cubans have been " outlawed " from participating in any professional sports. Do you understand this or did you just landed from another planet? :huh

Even with the few Cubans that have managed to " escape " the Island they have shown that they can also be a force in the pros. Cuban professional World Champions after Castro " 6 ", Juan Carlos Gomez, Joel Casamayor, Diosbelys Hurtado, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Yoan Pablo Hernandez and Guillermo Rigondeaux.

Would had been 7 counting Abril but we all know what they did to him robbing the daylights out of him! For such a small group of boxers compared to PR and Mexico ( who are free countries ) Cuba has shined and shined much more. Just open up Cuba completely and you will see Cuba's dominance.

    ;)

" Coming soon to a theater near you " ... :yep

Good for you for taking the time to explain to this kid in a civil and intelligent manner, like many of us have tried. But he's not really interested in trying to understanding or engage in a civil conversation.

By the way when it hits theaters, I'll be the first to get tickets. :good

Nah he just ran out of gas at the end and wasnt able to keep whitaker away or to take the punch since he was so tired. The problem is that most cuban counter punchers dont learn how to go to the body and stop and trade once in a while. They use the counter punching style during the entire fight, in the amateurs they never work on the art of body punching a big part of pro boxing. If you dont have KO power on your punches you need to be able to wear down your opponent little by little during the course of the fight. And you do that by going to the body, whitaker was a lot fresher at the end because hurtado couldnt hurt him and never went to the body.

The cuban boxing style is perfect for the amateurs but for pro boxing where you fight 10-12rds you need to be able to adapt and that's where they havent done it but is because they've been in the amateurs too long.

What you talking about dude? Cuba has been a communist nation since 1959 while PR has always been a free Nation though part of the US. I am stating that Cubans ( inside Cuba ) have been denied the opportunity to become professionals in all sports while PRs have always had that opportunity, same as Mexicans. Of course, no wonder why PR and Mex are way ahead of Cuba in the pros in terms of having more Champs but its not because of superiority, its simply because of Cuba's absence.

All Hurtado had to do was take a knee and he would have been fine but... he didn't , for some reason he chose to remain standing forcing the ref to stop the fight , it was inexperience that defeated him that night not Whitaker . Peace .
