Yeah this one has been done to death. Possibly, possibly not. However, the reason it never happened was because despite being rather handy over a video link, Toney wasn't so quick when it came to putting his money where his mouth was, finding his passport and coming over here to face the best.

Benn wouldn't have much hope. Eubank would have been a difficult kettle of fish. It would have been close.

Agree, Benn would have been Ko'd by Toney, Eubank would have a chance. Eubank could possibly squeez out a UD in Britain.

Yes Kwiff Eubank had the skills to pay the bills. I still watch Ben and Eubanks first meeting now and then.

    Both, even with Toney's drugs.

Well, according to some people on these boards James Toney is a boxing God, so I'm interested to see the reaction to this quesiton.

But the answer is yes, both Benn and Eubank could have beatwen the undiciplined and drug cheat Toney, prime Eubank would obviously have the better chance, but I wouldn't bet against Benn either.

    I say Eubank beats Toney.

Toney is over-rated here for being a slickster who turned on a couple of good performances but down in this weight level? He was inconsistent and struggled against guys who were prepared and ready for him.

Benn, different kettle of fish - Toney is a hard mother ****er to knock out and I don't see Benn boxing himself to a points victory against him

    As styles make fights......

Eubank pre Watson II would have beaten Toney - a big puncher with an iron chin and the ability to make an opponent to look stupid

Benn was better than Eubank IMO, but Toney's chin would have taken his power out of the equation, whilst Benn wasn't exactly iron chinned himself.

I would say Eubank UD Toney, Toney TKO Benn.

Most of the elite MW's/SMW's were in Europe at that point, so JT ought to have dug out his passport and come over for a few scraps.

i think Chris would stand a chance, but not nigel mainly on the basis that nigel was not exactly ironchinned, toney was just nigels punch was his most important aspect.

both would hav ebeen good fights though, i honestly believe however toney if prepared well and not drained would have won both fights, with Eubank standing the biggest chance of beating him.

Eubank would have probably been able to edge it, Benn im not too sure.

Seems we are all in agreement , I was a fan of Toney but Eubank would have given him hell. Benn was my favourite of the lot but he was too wild with his punches and has been stated already Mega Heart but not so mega chin.

Watched JC v Eubank again on Nuts last night and even that version of Eubank was a dangerous mf !

    Absolutely not.

For one, Nigel Benn was THE perfect opponent for James Toney stylistically. There is no way that fight would last more than 2 or 3 rounds IMO.

James Toney from '91-'94 had ATG ability IMO. In this period, he beat Merqui Sosa (18-0), pound-for-pound top 10er Michael Nunn (36-0), Reggie Johnson (29-1-1), HOFer Mike McCallum (43-1-1), Doug DeWitt, Iran Barkley, Tim Littles (24-0), and Prince Charles Williams. He lost his way a little bit after running into one of the greatest fighters in history IMO, but that should not diminish how good he was '91-'94 : pound-for-pound#2 behind only Pernell Whitaker.

He was a level above both Benn and Eubank IMO, and would have beaten either convincingly. However, I don't think the fight didn't happen because Benn or Eubank were scared of Toney, that was not either guy's nature. I do think they knew RJJ would beat them, but they would probably still have taken that fight for the money and the puncher's chance. Benn and Eubank were both admirably brave IMO.

I think Benn would stand a better chance of beating Roy than he would Toney, whilst Eubank would be the opposite IMO.

    Benn's punch > RJJ's chin
