Does Cuevas hit hard enough to blast thru Floyd's defense?

Cuevas would go to the body and come back up to the head with his hooks.

i think floyd would win this as cuevas wouldnt know how to deal with his defence and get picked off with counters in a wide but well fought UD

I could see Mayweather winning by decision IF Pipino doesn't KO him in a most brutal manner first. Mayweather has good defensive skills, however if Jose catches him with few good whacks, he will be in trouble. Gotta give Cuevas the edge here. Floyd hasn't faced a puncher like him.

i think your underrating PBF's chin i think cuevas has great power but mayweather only rarely gets hit so even if he did get hit with afew big shots he would shrug them off

Cuevas did very well against slick fighters, who didn't really pose a danger of hurting him. Angel Espada, Clyde Gray, Harold Weston Jr., Pete Ranzany. To be successful Mayweather would have to fight to a very strict gameplan. Like Andy "The Hawk" Price did to Cuevas early in his career.

There is no way Floyd would shrug off a clean shot from Cuevas.

When did anyone ever shrug off a Cuevas left hook? While he was in his prime?

That's due to his defence, not his chin. If he got hit flush with a Cuevas hook he'd be on the floor for the count.

i'm not saying he would stay on his feet but he wouldnt be KO'd or stopped and he would still win a competitive UD

Mayweather would beat Cuevas to the punch get in and out, keeps moving, doesn't let Cuevas plant his feet and peppers a puzzled Mexican with shots from all angles. Similar to Duran-Cuevas but less aggressive, Pipino goes the 12 or is stopped late on accumulation

Mayweather's an underrated puncher, no one else did what he did to Corrales and Hatton. He'd have plenty of opportunities to tag Cuevas time after time after time

    Corrales was a 130lber. Hatton was a 140lber.

    Cuevas was a BIG, hard-punching 147lber.

Your making it seem like Cuevas ain`t nothing but a welterweight version of Arturo Gatti, which he ain`t. Sure, Floyd will have plenty of countering opportunitys and all, but he ain`t going to capitalize on them without risking his own neck in the process as Cuevas won`t just be standing there idle. He`ll be firing right back and looking to land anything on Floyd as soon as he is in range so my guess is Floyd will be very selective with his offense and will only commit to throwing anything when he feels it is safe to do so.

And Mayweather ain`t no puncher at 147, the Hatton stoppage notwithstanding he hasn`t shown what can be considered a legitimate punch at the weight and certainly not anything to tame Cuevas with. My guess is that Floyd fights a strictly safety first type of fight and stinks out the joint en route to a close decision win or loss, depends on what the judges will favour, Floyd`s careful potshotting or Cuevas aggression.

And since Floyd`s chin has crept up in this disscussion, I`ll agree with those who say that he has demonstrated a good chin, but there is a world of difference between getting hit by JL Castillo/Ricky Hatton and Pipino Cuevas who had a nasty little habit of leaving his opposition in a heap of broken bones and eye sockets after he caved their faces and ribs in with his left hook.

And frankly Cuevas wasn`t some mindless, walk in a straight line drone, the man knew what he was doing in there and while he didn`t look pretty doing his thing I`ll be damned if he didn`t leave an impressive legacy behind considering his shortcomings. Floyd has a chance in this fight, but he`s a decided underdog in this one as far as I`m concerned, not the other way around and he has to fight a damn near perfect fight in order to get the win.
