That Lesnar quote wasn't really directed at you - more or less at the forum as a whole. I'm sorry for bundling that in there.

I don't think it is unreasonable for Baroni to have been in the top 20 at the time he fought Shamrock. Shamrock is fighting in the present - so I don't quite understand the fighters of the past argument. If they're still getting in the ring - they're current fighters. In fact Shamrock is widely recognized as the Prototypical Mixed Martial Artist - creating a mold that so many others have tried to follow.

I would say lee murray might be as good at striking as cung lee, not the same skill set but i think murray was a much better stand up puncher so overall it might quite level.

    MMA rankings

    http://zewkey.com/rankingstest.htm

    MMA Rankings per Shedog:

    http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles/4/Sherdogs-Official-Mixed-Martial-Arts-Rankings-8577

Lawler is ranked higher because he beat Trigg - yet lost to Miller? How does this work again? *Cue Beebs* Enter stage left. . .

Sherdog seems to share the same consensus opinion of this board. They are sleeping on Cung Le as well. This isn't about hype. It's about MMA getting a wake up call.

Its simple, Heath Herring is not Anderson Silva

Name one opponent of Le's who has the striking skill of Lee Murray.

Name a Le opponent with a meaningful win this millennium.

Le was not a great kickboxer, he was great at taking down kickboxers in a sport they don't practice.

    Those rankings are old.

Lawler has KO'd 5 straight, including Trigg, Ninja, Villasenor, and Smith.

Im confused as to why Quarry is so high and Franklin is at 15. Franklin brutally stopepd Quarry in 1 round and since that night Quarry has stopped Pete Sell agian and didnt run agianst Kalib Starnes so he won. Franklin defeats Lutter,Louiseau,McDonald and Okami :huh

    1. Frank Shamrock

    2. Frank Shamrock

    3. No one has cited Le as any kind of kickboxer. He is the world's greatest living proponent of San Shou.

And to quote the announcer on ESPN - "Cung Le brings his dominance to MMA!"

When he puts his punches and kicks together - Shamrock is very good. Just not as good as Cung.

With the exception of Baroni he beat those other fighters a decade ago. And baroni ain'tanywhere near the top 10. Hell you'll struggle to put him and his .500 record in the top 20!

It really doesn't matter what the rankings are. The most accurate ranking system is this very simply one I place before you now.

    1. Anderson Silva
    2. Everyone else.

Whether Shamrock was ranked top 20 or top 10 or top 5 it doesn't matter. He wasn't even close to Silva no matter his ranking. Even IF Cung Le was able to dominate top 5 middleweights like Franklin and Hendo (something I am not sure he could do), they don't hold a candle to Silva either.

Silva is so far and away the best fighter in the division that beating even top 5 guys doesn't necessarily mean you even stand a chance. Silva beat 3 of the top 6 so badly they barely looked like they belonged in the cage with him (although Hendo did win his first round against Silva, he did next to nothing the whole time). In Silva's last loss Okami won by DQ, in a fight Okami was losing, from the most amazing illegal upkick i've ever seen.

Also, while Cung's victory's are impressive, no fighter has made it past the second against Silva in 4 years, and Silva's opponents were better.

Yes this is silly, not only would Cung Le not beat Anderson, he won't even get to fight him, Le will be beat before then.

The middleweight division has such depth that it is ok for Trigg to be ranked at #10 by someone? Trigg? What has Trigg done besides losing to the best a division now below him? Oh, I forgot, he lost to Lawler. Oh yeah, Trigg certainly deserves to be ranked higher than Frank Shamrock.

Shamrock handled Baroni like he was a nobody. Baroni had tough fights with Tanner and Linland. I don't think Baroni has ever been a top 10 middleweight, but it takes a pretty good fighter to totally outclass him. If Trigg is a top 10 Middleweight, Shamrock most definitely is. Shamrock seemed very eager to face Lawler when he was commentating for that first CBS card. That fight is certain to happen now if it is true that Le is going to the UFC. Are alot of you going to hate on Lawler when Shamrock makes an example out of him?

I'll go back to my previous statement:

Shamrock won't beat Lawler. I guarantee it.
