The thread was Suggestions for Footwear. My question is Does anyone Train witout Footwear in the Gym if the Floor is safe to do so. In the Ring its safe, there are Plusses for doing so. It works the Foot muscles plus it makes the big Toe support the Balance Mechanics of the Ear better through Feel. Just wondered :good

I never don't wear shoes. I always train like I would fight; and that means boxing in boxing shoes.

Our ring does not provide enough grip to box barefooted, and it would be a hassle to take them off every time I get in and out. Besides boxing shoes are relatively thin anyway.

If you want to work the toe and foot muscles, run in sand. I was very happy with my beach runs last year, just be careful and watch out for glass.

RDJ, If you cant find purchase Barefooted the feet are wrong, plus there is a problem with the Hip flexers or groin which affects Posture which in turn affects the Biomechanics of movement. Anyway its of interest,Feel is a big player in Sport any Sport. Eyes tell us the History its Happened plus they only have a 1/6 of a second memory. Biomechanically Feel has a long Memory, used properly it can repair the Damage the eyes do to the Biomechanics.

just dont like doing it, so used to training with footwear on i guess, at the start of my mma days i used to get grazes on my toes and the next day all my toes would have scabs on them and wearing any type of footwear would kill me until they fully healed

Yes, I always perform lifts like squats, pistols, deadlifts etc barefoot. I'll probably get a bit of stick for this, but I wear soft soled Tabi boots for most of my mobility work in the gym, and hard soled Tabi boots when out running. I was introduced to Tabi boots many years ago when studying ninjutsu - for those of you who don't know what they are - http://www.black-eagle.co.uk/martial-arts-shoes-ninja-tabi-boots-c-95_98.html

Never trained barefoot but i can undertand the mechanics of it for sure, though will the strengthening etc be lost when having to wear boots for a fight for example?

I do train in my boots mostly, wearing ma running shoes etc, just feels so clumsy as i move a lot and i feel 8 ft tall, if this makes sense.

Another point, im told or was, that it never good to train on hard floors in your boxing boots, any ideas with this ?

I can understand it may cause undue stress, regarding not much support.

    Cheers :good
