Never really knew anything about this guys until I stumbled over his name on boxrec. Fought Cleveland Williams in 1959.. Dude has a crazy story.

    Copied from boxrec.

    "Name: Curley Lee
    Born: 1937-05-28
    Birthplace: Phoenix, Arizona, USA
    Hometown: Los Angeles, California, USA
    Stance: Orthodox
    Height: 5′ 11″ / 180cm
    Boxing Record: click

Curley Lee (Chapman) was rushed into the Williams fight, having subbed at the last minute for an injured Sonny Liston. He was losing the bout, but after being decked in the fifth, he had won both the 8th and 9th rounds, making the bout close. A minute into the tenth he was on the canvas, his life changed forever, as he suffered brain damage.
Thirteen years later, he attacked his wife and her brother with a crowbar. The wife escaped with injuries but he killed the brother. Then he went inside his house and drowned his 4 young children in the bathtub. Then he tried to kill himself by drowning himself in the same tub. When the police arrived, he said "Come in--if you can stand it." He was found NOT guilty by reason of insanity--the judge specifically citing the Williams fight as having caused his brain injury."

I'm wondering if that's what "really" caused him to do what he did. Guess the world will never know. But how terrible.

Unaware of any of the facts from opening post - what a tragedy! I can remember seeing the Williams fight. BBC showed it in their weekly Fight of the Week slot on Grandstand on Saturday afternoons. Going by memory, without checking any details, he was dwarfed in size and suffered a severe knockout. I think he was looked on as a prospect. It is a wonder, he lasted into the tenth, probably because of his bobbing and weaving style. Mr M this is the first I have heard of Lee since that fight with the possible tragic repercussions you posted.

The brief synopsis I copied suggested that lee made a good go of it but I've never seen any footage nor even knew of this fight until I ran across it on boxrec.
