Current (active) fighters who can sell out Football stadiums

Bruno sold out White Hart Lane & Wembley stadium. Eubank sold out White Hart Lane, and Hatton got 55,000 at Eastlands a couple of years back. Calzaghe sold out the Millenium.

Kevin Mitchell struggled at Upton Park this year. I assume Khan will sell the reebok out. Haye v Harrison could have sold Wembley, but he would only be able to do this with Harrison or a Klitchko. I doubt he could do it with someone like Solis.

Saracans Rugby team have sold out Wembley a couple of times recently because they got the pricing right. None of them games ever had anything near the hype this fight has.

 

I think it's always a gamble for boxers to try and go big like this. I agree that Haye v Harrison could have sold at Wembley but the reaction to the fight from the media has generally been positive, it could've easily been different and would've turned into a joke.

Most of our boxers these days aren't promoted in the right ways. Amir Khan was marketed perfectly 2 or 3 years back on ITV but then Frank threw this away looking for quick money with Sky pay per view.

We all know how bad Froch's been managed recently. The original plan was for Froch to beat Kessler then fight Arthur Abraham at the City Ground in Nottingham. Carl then lost but you get the feeling that even had he beat Mikkel Kessler, his name still wouldn't have been big enough to sell a fight at a football stadium.

It's a shame but it all comes down to bad marketing and mismatches like next weeks fight with Fraudley hardly help situations even though they might sell tickets in the short term.
