What=? That was a great reponse. Your response is as great as Adamek was against Vitali.

At least Adamek defeated Kevin McBride, someone the boxer in your avatar was stopped by.

Monsour is 39 years old and he hasn't beaten anyone of note. No, Dominick Guinn's corpse isn't someone of note. Jack's obsession with him is irrational.

And Mansour is fighting Epifano Mendoza tomorrow.

If he really is good, why don't they step up his level of opposition? Franklin Lawrence called him out, and Maurice Harris was willing, but they went for Mendoza instead.

He dominated Dominick Guinn his last time out, who's a pretty high level gatekeeper and better than anyone Mitchell's fought up to this point. And while Mendoza isn't great, calling him a blown up welter is like calling Pacquiao a blown up flyweight. He did most of his damage at 175, and his last time out he knocked out undefeated prospect Carlos Negron. It's not horrible for someone who's basically only been fighting for a year.

Considering his age, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Mansour just fights the rest of his career in front of packed houses in Delaware to make some cash, but he shouldn't be dismissed completely.

A few more names to throw out there who might get to contender status someday, though I doubt any of them become anything great: Franklin Lawrence (older but on a good run), Kelvin Price (same, converted pro basketball player), Alex Flores (I haven't seen him, but he's only 21 and has already knocked out two hypejobs in Quadtrine Hill and Sergei Karpenko, and he's one of Cris Arreola and Lateef Kayode's sparring partners), Tor Hamer (good skills, but small and not sure if his head is really in it), Joey Dawjeko (little fat white dude, but he moves a little like Toney), Monk Foreman (won't know if he's any good until he faces a live body), and Andy Ruiz Jr (another little short fat dude, but he's fast and getting some support from Top Rank).

    Obsession with who? Mansour?

I think he's a good fighter and would be great for the division but I realise he's possibly too old to do anything significant.

But Mendoza was just a journeyman in the lighter weight divisions and only recently moved up to HW.

He lost 12 fights and was stopped 6 times in smaller weight divisions. He was KOed by David Lopez in 2006 at 160.

Amir Mansour is running out of time. If he really is a top HW prospect, he should at least be fighting bona fide heavyweight journeymen like Maurice Harris and Franklin Lawrence, not journeymen who have been KOed in smaller weight divisions.

I don't disagree, but he still needs some time to build up to someone like Lawrence. It's a pretty tall order to expect someone just over a year removed from a 10 year forced layoff to start fighting legitimate top 25 guys. Obviously I'd rather see him fight someone like Maurice Harris or Travis Walker or even Zack Page than Epi Mendoza, but his team is taking it careful. He's become a draw in Dover, and they don't want to ruin that by moving him too fast. Even if they did move him as fast as possible, he'd be a longshot to be a top guy, but doing it too soon pretty much guarantees he won't be.

That said, he fought legit heavyweight gatekeepers or journeymen his last three times out. One easy KO of a guy who is now absurdly ranked by the WBO at heavyweight isn't the end of the world.

I do think you're selling Lawrence short by calling him a journeyman though. And at this point Harris is on a pretty good run himself. Mansour-Harris would be a pretty even fight I suspect, but people pay to see knockouts, so they're bringing in someone who will probably get knocked out and move him closer to a title shot at the same time.

You mean "by" a guy? He's ranked #7, Mendoza isn't ranked. Amir should fight some other WBO ranked HWs. New WBO rankings:

    Wladimir Klitschko - Champion

    1 Robert Helenius (Int-Cont)FIN
    2 Alexander Dimitrenko GER
    3 Chris Arreola USA
    4 Denis Boytsov RUS
    5 Alexander Ustinov RUS
    6 Carlos Takam (WBO Africa)CAM
    7 Amir Mansour (NABO) USA
8 Ondrej Pala (WBO Europe) CZE
    9 Jean Marc Mormeck FRA
    10 Seth Mitchell USA
    11 Chauncy Welliver (Asia-Pacific Int.)(China) USA
    12 Monte Barrett (Asia-Pac)(Oriental) USA
    13 Kubrat Pulev BUL
    14 Francesco Pianeta ITA

That's so far from true, it's scary.

On the whole, there are more poor people in the US today than at any time in the last 100 years. - And it's going to get a lot worse.

I guess this is a good thing for boxing. :?

I am totally bumping this thread if Mendoza manages to upset Mansour tomorrow. Not to say it's likely, but Mendoza is a live underdog imo.

They don't update their rankings much, and I remembered hearing he got ranked when he knocked off Negron, since Negron was ranked. I might be remembering wrong though, or it might be that he's ranked just outside of the top 15. Either way, if he wins, it's expected to move Mansour up the WBO rankings (plus I think this is for the WBF or IBU or some other fake trinket).
