Can't argue with you there Tal. And you're right, critics should be a little less one sided in there arguments and analysis. As for the US HW's or US fighters in general, I will say this. 99% wish they could do what Calzaghe did...... warts and all. But, most of them are not trying to be remembered in the historical context that Calzaghe is either.
To me Calzaghe is almost two people, earlier in career he avoided limelight and media and seemed pretty content and humble, they after beating Laxy he changed and became arrogant and a much different person. He began calling everyone and stating he was best and cotradicting himself often. I prefered the lder version
And his career mirrors that IMO. Don't know if it was Warren, or lack of confidence or an epiphany or what, but post Lacy his career seemed like it was going in the right direction. Then he retired. I won't say it was necessarily the wrong thing to do, but I felt the opportunity to really cement his standing was right there. Especially in light of the way SMW is booming right now. Although he probably would have had to stay at LHW. However, I do think a few of those young whippersnappers would have followed him up there to try and make a fight with him.
Yep Froch would have and im pretty sure others would. I think in the end he became to fearfull of losing the 0 and knew he was slowing down so decided he dare not risk it. Sometimes i think its better for a fighter to lose the zero early in their careers tbh.
Let's not forget Chambers has been over to Europe to fight 3 times 2 eliminators and 1 title shot. He gave away the Potvekin fight, smashed Dimertenko, and was annihilated by Wlad. It is not the Americans are not good enough HW's it is that the Klitschko's are too good. IMO Chambers beats everyone but them.
The heavyweights suck, yes the top guys are technologically sound, but they are robotic. anyone can throw a 1-2, good fighters can throw it proper, will great fighters have mastered the art of boxing and do subtle things in the ring that set them apart. Yes, the top heavies know how to throw a jab and an overhand right but boxing is also a science and PBF is Einstein and the heavy's are getting out of grade school. As for Calzaghe I classify him as a very good fighter, far better than any of the current crop (or should I say crap) of heavyweights. I think he gets beat down so much because his fans put him on a pedestal and therefore he is an easy target.
