Current Fighters - Do They Fit Within Top 50 Lists...

Manny Pacman. If he beats Mayweather ill put him in the top 20. Hes a truly great and humble fighter. Id still say hes top 50 right now

 

Hopkins is Top 5 Middle
Floyd is the GOAT Super-Feather
It think Pac can crack a Top 50 super-feather and maybe Top 50 Feather

Mosley is Top 20 lightweight
Hoya is Top 25 Welterweight (even though he retired)
Jones definately is GOAT super-middle and is in Top 20 Light-Heavys
Calzaghe is Top 5 Super Middle (retired)
Kessler is Top 15 Super Middle
Cotto may crack Top 50 at Junior Welter

No current fighter (Margo etc) crack Top 50 at Welter, not even Mosley
Vernon Forrest is Top 50 Light Middle

Klits crack Top 50 Heavys
Haye cracks Top 50 Cruisers
Calderon cracks Top 50 at his respective class

 

Who do you have in mind on the list?

 

Pong would make it into top50 at fly

Vic top 20 at superfly I would say

You could probably add Adamek to top 50 cruisers..actually quite easily..probably even top15 right now.

 

Mosley win over Hoya may creep him into the Top 50. I feel his lightweight reign is overrated which places him outside the Top 10 for me. Cotto does warrant a spot in the Top 25-50 at junior welter. Is it farfetched to say the Klits are in the top 50?

After further review Pac can definately be mention in the Top 15-20 at Super Feather.

 

Marquez is definately Top 50 feather weight. I'd say around 25-30ish.

 

Yeah Mosley's reign at 135 is not as good as people make out.

I think he would be well outside the top 10..probably struggle to make top 20. Its really historically the strongest division of alltime IMO.

Marquez is a tricky one..25-30 sounds pretty good, he didnt have a very long or dominant tenure but he had some solid wins. Though there are some lesser known guys I think he would have a hard time with because of styles etc Johnny Famechon for instance. In that way its hard for me to average out his resume/accomplishments at the weight and his H2H ability he showed there.

I think several do. If you going back to the start of the gloved era, its basically about 120 years ago or 12 decades. This means that each decade should have several top 50 ATG's in their weight classes.

For the purpose of this thread, let's stick to the original 8 weight classes, and pick fighters with a mature career or a career where they are in re-retirement for now. Today there are, yuck 17 different weight classes.

Among the fighters active today should fit in the top 50 original 8 weight classes are:

Heavy: Wlad and Vitali Klitschko

Light Heavy: I give it to Calzahge who was essentially a light heavy who drained down to 168, then re-hydrated. I would also list Roy Jones for sure.

Middle : Hopkins, and Toney.

Welter: Mosley

Light weight : Pacquaio, and Mayweather.

Feather weight: Marquez for sure. Also John. While John is not a great talent, he is champ and still un-defeated. So top 50 for him.

Bantam weight: Vasquez

Flyweight: Darchinyan, and Calderon.

I see a top 50 atg in each of the original 8 weight classes.

By the way, I think most of the 14 above names will be in the hall of fame someday. There are quite a few possibilities for some younger fighters I did not list, because their careers and legacy are not set yet.

 

i would have BHOP top 10 around 6 i think is about right

As much as i like Floyd i would say Arguello is the best SFW ever with Floyd 2nd

Calderon could be a top 10 Minimumweight/Light Fly

FW is a deep division this is a tough one but sounds about right

 

Hopkins, Calzaghe, Pacquia, Holyfield. Thats it.
