I thought Casamayor beat Corrales 3 times.

Well, he beat Corrales 2 times, ( officially ) and lost 1. But I feel that he also won that one, even dropping Corrales again in that fight.

El Cepillo was the real deal in his prime, technique, speed, power, chin and guts... :good

But I think Gamboa is actually better !

I noticed a couple things here that are a bit off. Casamayor that I recall didn't campaign at 126 pounds. He was at 130. Casamayor had above average defense, it wasn't great. He was definitely hittable against opponents who had a little skill. Casamayor's hand speed was above average, not great. Casamayor's power was above average, but very deceptive Hence his 50% KO ratio. When he was able to get a flat footed guy in front of him, and sit down on some stuff, he could put a guy on the canvas.

Gamboa, has more power, more offensive talent period, faster hands etc., but is smaller than Casamayor, and more hittable than Casamayor.

I think another thing Casa had better is punching accuracy. I believe Casa was more efficient with his punches than what I'm seeing from Gamboa. See the thing with Gamboa is that he throws alot of punches, I'm talking 5 -7 punch combos. He overwhelms his opponents with a fast barrage of punches. While some shots miss, he's garanteed to land. Gamboa is not as accurate as his other counrty men in Rigondeaux and Lara, but when he lands it has devastating effects. :bbb

Actually, I made a mistake. Casamayor started in 130 pounds, but 126 is just 4 pounds less. No big deal, as Gamboa has fought many times at 130. So yeah, the fight will be at 130 pounds . :good

And Casamayor was Ring Champ at 135. Also very strong at 130. You have an option of Gamboa by KO? He is also bigger than Gamboa.

Casamayor was robbed in the 2nd Corrales fight and many felt that the deserved the decision against Castillo (remember this was after he was robbed against Mayweather so there was a lot of sympathy for him). All of his losses are controversial except the Marquez one where he was 37 years old and faded.

I think a competitive UD or a TKO for Casamayor depending on how good Gamboa's chin is.

Casamayor didn't have a great chin but he was sneaky, had gd boxing ability and had gd punching power at 126. Plus I don't think Gamboa has a gd chin cause he rushes in with no balance and that makes double impact if u get caught with a counter. A sneaky counter puncher like Casamayor could catch him coming in.

Casamayor lost some fights just because he was too passive in many rounds. Like the Freitas and Castillo fights. When he decided to work hard he won rounds against Freitas and Castillo. Why didnt he do the work all 12 rounds ? Did he think the judges would give him the victory because of his boxing skills ? or did he lack physical ability ?

Exactly, casamayor started at 130 as a pro.So, this fight must take place at SFW.
its a tough call, but el cepillo was in the ring with everyone on their peaks-freitas,corrales x3, castillo,campbell...he proved himself an elite boxer at a very difficult weight. He was a master counterpuncher, solid technician-not absent of power.
Until i see gamboa going further and beating more tough guys-and i'm sure he will- i have to give the edge to El Cepillo.

Casamayor, prime, and 126 don't belong together. However, best version of Casa at 130 vs the best we've seen of Gamboa at 130, would go with Casa in a hard fought decision. He's smart and crafty. Not afraid to bend a rule.

Casamayor had a GREAT chin, neither freitas, corrales x3 or castillo(all big punchers) could KO him-only Marquez after going 11 hard rounds put him down when Casa was already way past his time. And even more, recently with el cepillo almost in a wheelchair ,a very strong Guerrero who jus beat Katsidis coudnt either KO him.
