He'll never regain the same power. But it's not just about power. It's about the extent to which you commit to a punch, and the drive and confidence you have when you commit. Calzaghe beat the drive and confidence out of him.
Punching power has always been about technical and physical gifts. Dont try turn it into mental. Confident or not, if Lacy could hit hard, hed hit hard. If his confidence has been beaten that badly enough, he would not set foot in a ring again.
A lot of it is the shoulder too though. Having suffered a torn labrum myself, I can tell you it never comes back as strong and it always hurts to make certain motions, even after rehab.
This wasnt about decline, this was about lack of confidence. If you lack enough confidence to throw a meaningful punch, trust me, you'd lack enough confidence to get into the ring first.
Come on! There's confidence and there's confidence. Even if you convince yourself that you are 100% confident, it doesn't mean that you are, much as you would wish it/think it to be true. Confidence works subconciously too...you might not even be aware you lack confidence...:good
Confidence may affect your ring skills such as reflexes and not being able to pull the trigger as quickly as you can. However it will never affect it to the point that you loose power because power is all mechanical, its how your body is built and your natural way of throwing that.
I think it does affect power too... When you are confident you can lift a heavy weight, you can; when you are not, even subconciously, you cannot.
