A bit fluid, but my picks: 1. Fury 2. Wlad 3. Povetkin 4. Wilder 5. Joshua 6. Ortiz 7. Pulev 8. Jennings 9. Stiverne 10. Browne 11. Parker 12. Takam 13. Chisora 14. Martin 15. Scott 16. Chagaev 17. Duhaupas 18. Thompson 19. Spilzka 20. Glaskov 21. Haye 22. Brazaele 23. Molina 24. Perez 25. Ustinov Other thoughts. I left Teper and Tarver off because of the roid suspensions, Cunningham off because he dropped down to cruiser. Some notable names off my list but debatable in no particular order: Wach, Chambers, Washington (Chambers Washington winner will get on the list), Hughie Fury, Helenius, Price, Charr, Ruiz, Whyte, Granat, Mansour. If Perez and Ustinov don't fight a top 50 guy in the next 6 months, they should be dropped. Oh, and Haye does not below in the top 20 at age 35 after 3.75 years of inactivity/not facing a contender, shoulder surgery until he beats at least a top 60 hw (and Arnold Grbaja is not a top 60 hw). Finally, tough to drop Ortiz from #5, Jennings was a better hw than Martin, but there was a bigger gap between the impressiveness of the destruction of Martin than the skill gap between Martin and Jennings, so Joshua earned it.
Really hard to rate them. At the moment: Tier 1: Fury. Klitschko Joshua Hughie Tier 2: Haye Parker Wilder Ortiz Povetkin Tier 3: Granat Lewandowski Greigjaj Teper Browne Martin Duhaupas Helenius Whyte Chisora Pulev Miller Takam Breazeale Washington Jennings Kuzmin Schwarz
Did I miss him retiring? Until then, the former 9 year undefeated champ deserves to be 2nd only to the guy who beat him. Also, Ortiz has only beat Jennings and Thompson. Arguably, Martin, Whyte and Johnson basically even that out in quality, and AJ's win's were more dynamic than Ortiz's. And Povetkin and Wilder both have many more top wins than Ortiz.
Ortiz and Wlad both recently fought Jennings. Ortiz dominated Jennings. Wlad struggled past Jennings. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Ortiz destroyed Jennings, but he didn't dominate Jennings, there's a difference. I believe I had Jennings winning every round he wasn't rocked or kd'd in. Anyway, styles make fights, and one or two fights alone shouldn't be enough to put you atop a division unless you are beating a champ.
Bottom line is this. Ortiz was a lot more impressive against Jennings than Wlad was. NO debut there. Anyway what Wlad did 10 years ago or even 5 years ago has or should have no bearing on his current ranking. Only what he has done recently. He has had two fights in the past year and he didn't look like a top 3 fighter in either of them.
Sure he did. He beat a top 10ish HW in Jennings, and lost to the best HW in the world. Not sure how he drops out of top 3 from that. And of course his history should have bearing on the rankings, most top hw's are good to get in 2 fights against contenders per year. Haye wouldn't even be in the top 50 if we didn't consider what he did 3.75 years and more ago.
