Oh yeah, since only 2 made it to the quarterfinals, this is the worst team showing EVER in USA Boxing Olympic History (Previously, the least amount of American boxers to make the Round of 8 in any Olympics was 4 in 2004). In addition, in Athens, only 2 fighters won medals (Andre Ward won gold at light heavy, and Andre Dirrell won bronze at middle).
Wilder got a great draw and if he can pull off a victory over the Moroccan he will medal. I dont see him defeating Clemente Russo though. Andrade, defending World Champion, if he continues winning and grabs gold then atleast we can match 2004's results. Very disappointing considering the talent on this team as well as fantastic draws for several of our fighters I believe Andrade will make it to the finals and have a battle with the young Cuban Banteaux. Cuba has been impressive, everybody thought they would be down since they lost 4 Olympic Gold Medalist and a World Champion, but they've shown they can rebound and will likely get the most medals yet again
It's Teddy Atlas's fault, he said the Cuban's would lose and now there winning. He picked 5 americans to medal and now 3 are out.
Are these right ? I am watching boxing right now, and Estrada is up next fighting so whats with these results ?
It was a bad Olympics. It had so much promise too. The judging wasn't all that this cycle; and the lack of getting the guys international experience and the problems in CS didn't help.
Don't be surprised if Clemente Russo doesn't make it past Usyk. Usyk looked superb in the first round. I honestly think he is a shoe in for gold.
I dunno.. I think Acosta has it in the bag. But you never know. I missed Usyk's fight so i obviously dont know what your talking about. However, if he beats Russo, that could be a definate plus for Wilder (if he beats the Moroccan). Wilder at 6'7'' will be fighting a guy who fought at 81 kg less than a year ago. Size alone could play a factor their
That fight has already been shown on CNBC TWICE, once live (last night/this morning) and on replay (earlier this afternoon).
