Current WBA madness at Middleweight

    There are three WBA champions at Middleweight:

    The Super Champion, Gennady Golovkin (who is the Super Champ because he has made at least 5 successful defenses, although they will probably change the name to the unfied champ now he has the IBF belt)

    The Regular Champion, Daniel Jacobs

    The Interim Champion, Chris Eubank Jr (though not for very long).

    Eubank Jr won the belt off Fedor Chudinov in February.

    WBA rules require interim belt holders to defend their belts every six months. Eubank Jr returns to the ring this coming week to defend against Tony Jeter, the WBA interim title will be on the line......yet regardless who wins, the winner is getting stripped (due to Jr's inactivity of 8 months) .

    The day after the bout the belt will be awarded to Sergey Khomitsky because he beat Alfonso Blanco last week.

    And if Jr and Jeter don't pay a sanctioning fee, they will be removed from the organizations ratings and won't be permitted to fight for Golovkins Super, Jacobs Regular or Khomitsky interim anytime soon. :patsch

    How many belts are there now? Too many belts, hell, belts don't mean as much as they used to years ago............................why? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$for the boxing org.'s$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

    I was surprised that Jacobs was able to fight for a vacant WBA belt (against Fletcher) although there was already an interim champion (Chudinov) when Golovkin was awarded the "super" WBA title.

    A week ago, the super lightweight division was the only weight class with "only" 1 WBA world champion

    It was Jose Benavidez, the interim champion
    There is a interim champion in super lightweigt since 2013 (Johan Perez beat Paul Spadafora). The interim title went to Mauricio Herrera and to Benavidez ... but no WBA champion (Allakhverdiev, Jessie Vargas) was forced to do a mandatory defense.

    Somehow, when Vargas stepped up in weight (to fight Bradley), Broner was able to fight for a vacant title ... Benavidez is still the interim champion and I don't guess that Broner will demanded to do a mandatory defense against Benavidez.

    Again ... it's a Haymon-fighter who get's the shot for a vacant belt while the interim champion is not considered to fight for the vacated title.


    The WBA is a mess.


    Well ... Andre Ward is a WBA champion since almost 6 years and never fought a mandatory defense.
    He still holds the title although he didn't defended it for almost 2 years and although he is expected to continue to fight above the weight limit of 168lb.

    3G is the titlist for WBA, the others are "junior" belts.


    in what universe could Eubie jnr win a world title.

    Fedor is the better one od the Chudinov's

    And you are right the WBA is a buch of ******

    If Golovkin fights in Monaco next he should face either
    Eubank Jr (interim) or (Jacob) regular to clean up that mess

    Eubank Jr will not be the interim. He is being stripped.

    Jacobs? You ever heard of a chap called Al Haymon?

    If he fights in Monaco it will likely be Johnson who is mando for his IBF. Probably GGG's next fight in fact because whoever wins out of Cotto v Canelo, even if they agree to face him you'd be looking at May at the earliest I reckon
