Current Wlad vs. Pre-Steward Wlad

    I wouldn't dismiss Pre-Steward Wlad's chances out of hand here. He has a couple points in his favor that would spell trouble for Current Wlad.

    Wladimir could never beat any version of Wladimir. He doesn't have the chin for it. Stupid to even give him a chance. I mean, sure he's got a puncher's chance but he doesn't have the chin to last long enough to even use it. As soon as Wlad hits him he's going to either be knocked out or put into panic mode until Wlad knocks him out soon thereafter. Give it up, Cross. He's just not good enough to pull this off and he doesn't have ANYONE on his resume to even suggest he could. Not even close.

    Nonsense, Boxed.

    Current Wlad comes from an era of superheavyweights. Like most large fighters in the past, Pre-Steward Wlad was a clumsy, uncoordinated oaf -- basically Jess Willard with a Ukrainian accent. Comparing him to a modern superheavyweight like Current Wlad is a travesty.

    Now, I know that some posters will come back and yammer on about how tough things were way back when Pre-Steward Wlad was fighting. Men were men, fighters ate ball bearings for breakfast, etc. etc.

    But look at the facts.

    We have a few scraps of fight film with Pre-Steward Wlad, and it's not impressive viewing. Pre-Steward Wlad's technique is barely recognizable as modern boxing. He throws punches -- nay, combinations -- and ignores the devastating left- and right clinches that have become the hallmark of the modern heavyweight division. It's like looking at a caveman trying to box.

    On a more serious note:

    Pre-Steward Wlad had a couple things that could spell trouble for the current version.

    He was younger and faster, for one thing. In a fight between two similar(ish) styles, the faster guy with the better reflexes isn't a bad bet. And Current Wlad has already showed signs of slowing down.

    Then there's the Pre-Steward version's offensive ability. The current incarnation might have better 12 round stamina, but Pre-Steward Wlad was an offensive machine. Fast, powerful left hooks and rights set up behind a hard jab. Unlike a lot of Current Wlad's opponents, the Pre-Steward version would also have the same height and reach, so he wouldn't need to fight his way inside. And of course, there's the panic factor. In a battle between two guys who go into survival mode when somebody hits them, the more aggressive fighter has a leg up.

    Current Wlad's stamina won't matter much if the Pre-Steward version finds his soft chin relatively early. And he has the tools to do that.

    I would be rooting HARD for young Wladimir, but current Wladimir would UD him. (although he might get clipped hard a few times and get that panicky look on his face in between clinches)

    Current Wlad.

    Pre-Steward Wlad was insanely exciting to watch, but he was always going to be at the detriment to a fighter who could withstand his onslaught, weather the storm, and await Wlad's stamina to rob him.

    Even the Mercer destruction, Wlad was breathing pretty hard and threw the kitchen sink at him to get him out.

    Old (young) Wlad didn't hug. That was a scrappy dude. It's like he underwent a long conversion to Buddhism. The Kronk school of Buddhism.

    My take as well and truthfully I'd pick the pre-many version to do exactly that.

    First, pre-stewart I believe is much better, keep in mind of his losses, Sanders was to be a walk in the park, an purity people forget was wlad's 12th fight in one years time, he would lost to someone that night with a sold chin, an huge desire to win, I say purity was more game to win that night then brewster was when he beat wlad......

    I think purity gave wlad the best lesson out of all his defeats, he understood he was not superman, his promoter relised he was not superman, an took conditioning a lot more serious, an time off between fights. Wlad to me could always go 12 rounds, even against purity he could do it, but it was the fight after fight system they had him in,,,, Either way I would say the wlad that lost to sanders was the best wlad there was, sure not the best night, but if wlad would took this guy for anything more then a golfer, that is his victory that night. Keep in mind they were really just waiting on a showdown with lewis, an taking some easy matches before hand...

    But that wlad used his jab, was quick on his feet, an did not get hit a lot, go watch his fight with Mcline, there were rounds Mcline did not touch him....

    I think the holding he picked up with stewart was good for when he gets in trouble, I think if he holded against sanders, got his legs back, I think he takes the fight, but I say pre-stewart wlad would beat lennox lewis,,,,I think the other wlad has a close fight,

    an embarrassing knockout.
