UK lost a couple last year. Frampton, Brook, De Gale. Hopefully some of them will recapture titles this year.

US used to be a lot stronger in boxing though, Britain are really coming up, Billy J.S. Ant Josh and George Groves far better than in the 90`s.

Where was he trained as a boxer on the way up and as an amateur because that`s what counts here which country has the best trainers.

Just for interests sake I've normalised these to championship per 100million people for each country as there is a HUGE population range in the countries listed here.

Per capita the US is pretty unremarkable in terms of boxers but it has a HUGE amount of people over a huge amount land... in the scale of things you'd hope sooner or later you'd get "championship" material but it doesn't make it look like the US is producing the strongest boxers because it's the place to be.

I only realised after I tolled the numbers up that unifications are in there, that actually means this isn't quite as representative of individual talents.

    PR- 85.7
    NZ- 21.3
    KAZ- 16.7
    UK- 12.1
    JAP- 10.2
    SYR- 9.1
    UKR- 8.9
    GER- 8.7
    MEX- 7.8
    VEN- 6.3
    THA- 5.8
    PHI- 5.6
    RUS- 4.9
    US- 4.6
    ARG- 4.5
    CUB- 4.2
    AUS- 3.6
    GHA- 1.8
    HAI- 1.2
    SA-1

That doesn`t explain why the majority of the top 100 boxers of all time were/are Americans, better trainers, your reply is sound but far too vague.

Well depends really - America always has had a bigger population than most other countries so the odds of a talent, being either a trainer or a boxer, is increased just by sheer numbers.

If I spent all day throwing basketballs from half court at a hoop and got 7 in, and then a professional basketballer had 20 shots and got 4 in - does that mean I'm better at it?

We have one mod who is particularly vigilant about nationalistic/tribalism/ethnicity-based trolling (which can definitely get outta hand on here), which is a good thing, except he gets threads like yours here in his crosshairs and conflates them with that concept (and when in doubt, just pulls trigger on deleting stuff without really taking a moment to lend a critical eye), which is a bad thing.

Sure in a lot of sports, but the US is sutpdingly weak in some quite established world sports.

Weird not seeing Sturm with a paper title for Germany.... I guess Zeuge and Charr have taken his place.

Don't think so. I'm going to make this next bit big. Don't take it as shouting or anything of that sort, I just want to make sure it gets noticed by those browsing the thread.

I used wiki, I made this thread as lazily as I could. It mirror's wiki's "current champs" which is why only one link goes to boxrec.

I just thought it'd be a bit of fun to have the sort of Olympic style race to accolades given there's going to a shake up soon, and looking into the future it looks like boxing is now finally a truly global sport so world titles by nation seems like it'd always be a fleeting thing.

Done by roots, y'all complained after Butt so it's already by roots.

I'm not even sure what you're minging about. Japan is over represented and that makes me a German? You should be proud of Japan, they have a top five ranked HW and thirteen world titles. That's pretty cool compared to 1950's boxing globalism and Lee ****ing Savold being the letter belt holder for the Europeans even though his ass is American.

I'm from dixie, i'm ethnically Puerto Rican, and yeah I'm proud, but I'm also a boxing fan and I do get joy out of seeing emerging markets emerge.

 Ahhhhagagagaga Mr Krab's style laugh. I am Puerto Rican.

Bullshitting aside, that's pretty cool bud. I'd be interested in keeping up with those numbers if you kept them active and updated. Maybe you should post a sister thread? Also, have you figured boxing states that have no champs what they'd jump to with just one? Let's say Pulev got a world title, where's Bulgaria now? Also, China.

The smaller divisions tend to be overlooked because there's less knock outs
