    Thanks Rumsfeld.

Vitali: WBC, Australian, IBA, Brazillian and OPBF, French.
    Last fight: September 2012

    Tyson Fury: Nigeria
Oleg Platov: Pabo and South African, - Last fight November 2012
Joseph chincangu: Zimbabwe and Zambia - Last fight October 2012.
    Danny Green: NZ All comers
    Joseph Parker: NZ Heavyweight

By Popular demand, this thread has finally been updated. We have added the latest NZ Heavyweight title, which has been split from Danny Green's now acknowledged World Allcomers title. Green doesnt seem to happy about the political split either as he has come out of a 3 year retirement to try to reestablish his world title status in New Zealand.

Interestingly, Joseph Parker's Allcomers world title will be defended against Kali Meehan soon, or so it seems.
The biggest news though is the upcoming unification fight between Wlad and Tyson fury. Will the Nigerian champ cause the upset, or will Wlad add what i think is his 29th lineal title.

Absolute Massive change here, of course, but interesting that Tyson Fury was actually defending a lineal title, making the Wlad fight a unification bout, and we are therfore one step closer to pure unification. Chincangu, Platov and Vitali all look retired, with a 3 year or close to 3 year break appearing to be taken. It might be time to declare interim champions for each of these titles, in the very near future.

In other updated news, Danny Green has retained his NZ title, and Joseph Parker continues to rack up several successful defences. If i was betting, i would think his title (dubious as it is) might soon make its way in the unification stakes.

Surely once a Heavyweight title is won, it is defended no matter what every fight? That there was a contract limiting the weight is neither here nor there...

I agree with what you are saying in principle (this was my personal view), but because of the controversy i let it slide. I expect, like with most other titles, both titles will eventually find their way back to the same place.

No Changes in relation to the claimants, although it is interesting that with the ticking over of another year, it means that 3 of the 6 remaining claimants have not fought since 2012. Given that it is now 2016, that is going on 4 years now, which means unless something unforeseen happens, they are not really claimants anymore.

This leaves just Joseph Parker, Danny Green and Tyson Fury as the only active lineal claimants left. With Fury being closer than anyone has ever been to that undisputed claim.

It is also interesting that of these three active champs, we have one from Australia, one from NZ and one from UK. Is this a resurgence from these areas like we have not seen since before the 1900s?

So, Danny Green and JOseph Parker (both NZ champions) are the only two active champions floating around?

Chinacangu seems to have had a bad year last year, according to internet reports. Beaten up by a group of students who caught him stealing a laptop and then arrested for aggravated robbery. Quite sad, especially considering all comments have him pinged as a celebrity in his homeland and talk of his squandering his ring earnings (i tend to think they have overinflated opinions on his wage as a boxer).

Danny Greens win was controversial to say the least but when you consider that Joseph Parker technically has a manufactured title, if you consider Tyson Fury retired, then Danny Green is technically the fighter who unified the world championships and is the last champion standing. (but for judges, it could have been Mundine). What are the odds on that when i started this project?

Looking at the current champions, poor old Joseph Chigangu is the saddest. He seems to currently be in jail for a home robbery after earlier this year having been hospitalised and beat down by an angry mob of students who caught him stealing their laptops.

Vitali is a littl interesting in that he did hint at a comeback, although it is unlikely and wouldnt really result in the unification one might expect.

    Anthony Joshua: NZ Heavyweight

Anthony Joshua seems to have inched into the picture with his defeat of Parker getting him the NZ Heavyweight title (which in itself is a bit dodgy since it relies on Danny Green being ineligible to win the title). I think we will see Joshua or one of his successors unify with Tyson Fury somewhere along the line, and that might be it for the lineal title unification project.

Nearly a year later and no changes, with Joshua vs Fury the only unification bout left as all other claimants appear to have retired.

    Andy Ruiz: NZ Heavyweight

Andy Ruiz has won the NZ heavyweight title, setting himself on track for the ultimate unification challenge, linking himself to Tyson Fury for the ultimate unification fight. With all other championships being held by retired fighters who have not fought since 2012 and how would not be likely to or even capable of ever stepping back in the ring, i think that those belts might be entitled to appoint an iterim champion as at September 2012, so that i can see if their lineage traces back to any of our two remaining champions.

    Interim Titles
    WBC - Deontay Wilder

So, With Vitali Klitchsko formally retiring in 2012, the WBC had a world title match between Bermain Stiverne and Chris Arreola, with Stiverne winning. Stiverne would win once before being KOd by Deontay Wilder. Wilder would actually fight but only draw with Tyson Fury, meaning that Deontay Wilder retains the WBC championship.

    Australian - Andy Ruiz

This is quite an interesting one. Solomon Huamono fought for the Official Vacant Australian title just one day before Vitali Klitchsko officially retired, meaning this did not make him a lineal champion. Otherwise, the lineage would have been handed to Kevin Johnson, Christian Hammer and eventually Tyson Fury. But this was not to be.
Instead, it was the Sam Hunter's victory over David Levi which saw him emerge as the official Australian Champion. This lasted just two fights before big Kali Meehan secured a split decision Victory. Although this was followed up by a win over Shane Cameron, it ended with his lost to Joseph Parker. Parker defended the title 8 times (including wins over Current NZ heavyweight lineal champion Andy Ruiz and other notable fighters like Dimitrenko, Haumono ). His run would end with his loss to Anthony Joshua. Joshua would go on to lose to Current NZ Claimant Andy Ruiz.

    IBA -
Interestingly, the highly prestigous Lineal IBA title seems to have retired with Vitali Klitchsko. It was last formally held by James Toney in 2008 but Toney was not the lineal champion at this time. Very quickly, this lineage Reads Toney, Lebedev, Gassiev, Usyk. This gives Oleksandr Usyk the strongest claim on the IBA title, although since they havent recognised anyone after Vitali, i think that this lineage needs to be erased and no such title exists any longer.

    Brazilian - Andy Ruiz.
George Arias was the long running Brazilian champ recognised when Vitali retired. He went on to 4 lineal defences before losing to Dennis Boystov. He would have just the one more fight and has not fought since 2015. Interestingly, if this is considered a retirement, which it probably needs to be, Arias won the official Brazilian title in May 2015. He would then lose on points to Hughie Fury, who would have four defences before losing to Joseph Parker, who would lose to Joshua and then to Andy Ruiz.

    OPBF - Andy Ruiz
This is interesting, because it has exactly the same lineage as the Australian title with the Haumono/Sam Hunter situation.

    France - Andy Ruiz
Newfel Oatoah had sever defences when recognised as champion in October 2012. He ran into Erkan Temper after 3 defences, who himself had 3 defences before being stopped by Christian Hammer. Hammer fought twice and lost to Povetkin. Povetkin in turn lost to Joshua and Joshua lost his titles to Andy Ruiz.

So, quite interestingly, all of Vitali's lineal titles are now actually held by Andy Ruiz. I will do the others later tonight.

    South Africa: Otto Wallin

Oleg Platov had his last fight in november 2012.

In november 2011, Wiseman Dlovo won recognition as the South African Champion. He lost to Ibragimov in June 2012 in Ibragimov's last fight. He never fought after Platov retired so cannot be considered a lineal champ.

Anton Nel became recognised as champion in October 2013 when he beat Heinz Van Bloch. he had 3 defences before losing to Osborne Machimana, who lost his first defence to Otto Wallin. Wallin has put together 4 wins before a no contest fight with ended in a no Contest fight due to an accidental head clash. Wallin is currently 20 and 0 with one NC.

    PABO - Dillan Whyte/Andy Ruiz

Billy Wright held the PABO title just days before Platov retired and defended it once. He had not fought since March 2015 and seems retired. Being born in 1964, by my count that has him retiring as the OPBF lineal champion at 51 years of age! I think it is safe to say that he deserves not to have to come out of retirement even if Ruiz, Wilder and Fury are technically "ducking him". Looking back at his career, he debuted in 1986, the year Mike tyson won his first world title, Mike Spinks beat Larry Holmes and Evander Holyfield won his first cruiserweight title. Although he lost an early fight to Dave Yonko, that was the last fight he would lose to a non world ranked fighter. His only losses were to world ranked fighters, Michael Moorer, Frans Botha and Tony Tucker. After retiring in 1999, he had a 8 year break and then made an undefeated comeback which while he didnt fight and world beaters, it did lead him to the PABO title (although it was technichally always said to be the interim title) as well as the official WBC asian, Latino and FECARBOX titles.

In March 2015, Joseph Parker was ruling the roost and this lineage would track the usual route up to Andy Ruiz Junior.

the other lineage consideration is when Russian Chagaev was considered the first offical PABA champion after Platovs retirement with his win over Jovo Pudar. He had 2 wins before losing to Lucas Browne. Browne had one win and lost to Dylan Whyte. Whyte has beaten Joseph Parker and Derek Chisora.

Technically this title is still disputed depending on what status is given to the interim title holder and who should be recognised as champ after platovs retirement.

    Zimbabwe - Vincen Muzuri

Chingangu retired in October 2012. The first official vacant title fight was won by Vincent Muzuri, who is currently 3 and 0.

    Zambia
Have not had an official champion since the retirement of lineal champion Joseph Chincangu, so the title should probably be removed by the list.

New Zealand all comers - Hemi Ahio/David Light
This is technically the New Zealand title. Danny Green has not fought since his win over Anthony Mundine back in February 2017. Lucky he won that as otherwise Jeff Horne would be the smallest lineal heavyweight champion ever. Danny green himself is retired, although i dont know if a comeback is completely off the cards.
The New Zealand situation is a complete mess. The New Zealand National Boxing Federation recognised Hemi Ahio on 3 novemer 2015. They recognised Daniel Tai on 29 March 2018. Ahio, who is 14 and 0, defeated Tai for the New Zealand Professional Commission Championship in January of 2017 just a month before Danny Green technically retired (assuming he has retired). Tai Meanwhile lost to David Light, who is 13 and 0. The other NZ titles dont seem to mean anything (not that either of these seem to).
Technically i suppose that Light is the New Zealand National Boxing Federation and Ahio is the New Zealand Professional Commission Boxing Champion. Not to forget the lineage leading to the New Zealand "heavyweight" championship. We will have to keep two champions until we get the dream match.
