Current WW King - Miguel Cotto not Shane Mosley

    Since the Marg win for Shane there has been a steadily increasing voice that has claimed him as the Welterweight King.

    I do not know how this is possible given that Cotto already beat him. Add to that the fact that Cotto's only loss in his Pro career is now the stuff of conspiracy due to the Hand Wrap scandal. With a question mark hanging over that fight what else has he not done to be considered the top WW fighter.

    Of course Shane beat Marg in a dominant and fantastic display, I agree fully with that. But he fought a fighter who just before the fight in the locker room had been caught cheating. It cant then be a surprise that Marg, a fighter who had seemed so invincible, so dominant was reduced to a shadow of his previous image. A man who couldnt be hurt was left in a crumpled heap on the mat. Its like the school bully telling you he going to beat you up after school. In between you have to take a test, are you going to be 100% at your best. I'm sure we all know the feeling of being caught outside by your parents misbehaving with the long walk home ahead knowing your going to get torn a new one. Were you able to concentrate on playing with friends, Hell No.

    Shane is a great fighter so please no one call me bias or a hater but we are talking about the here and now not what he did 5 years ago. Now if Cotto loses to Pac we have a different story.

    I just really dont get why all of sudden Shane is the man at 147 when surely any balanced conclusion on the results would disagree. Shane needs to do more, ideally a rematch with Cotto or beating Clottey/Williams.

    Hell, I think Mayweather is the best boxer at 147 but if anyone was to ask me who the WW number 1 guy is I'd have to say MIGUEL COTTO

    Cotto has 2 losses. Margacheato and Clottey.


    He got a gift wrapped present in the Clottey fight.

    I happen to side with the TS in that Cotto's lone defeat was indeed a dubious affair and thus I've somewhat dismissed the loss from consideration in these discussions.

    In addition, Cotto obviously has a win on his record over Mosley which is the signature victory on his impressive resume.

    With the exception of the Margarito demolition, Mosley hasn't looked great in his recent fights which further strengthens Cotto case.

    Cotto lost to Margo under suspicious circumstances.

    Mosely beat Margo under suspicious circumstances.

    I'd love to see this trio meet up again.

    He won controversially against Clottey because it evens out. We dont know that Margarito used plaster. We do know Cotto was gifted against clottey.

    The reason why Shane is the man is because Margarito didn't touch him at all. Shane made him look like a novice out there. And because the Cotto fight decision btwn him and shane is Controversal i would give it to shane...

    i have mosley on top but i have no problem if they put cotto at no. 1.

    Stop what? He did get a gift decision against Clottey, and there is no reason to believe that Margo was able to cheat when they fought. Nevada isn't California. The NSAC provides the tape and gauze for the fighters to wrap their hands before the fight. There's no proof that Margarito cheated against Cotto.

    it was a close fight, hardly a loss.

    Hes beat Clottey, Mosley, Quintana, and Judah...

    however, i put Mosley as number one due to their close fight, his destruction of margarito, and cottos loss.... its really close, but i have mosley ahead by a hair.
