I'm interested to see what the responses are on this one, from more knowledgeable boxing fans then myself. I imagine it would come down to either Chavez, Canelo, or even Sanchez but you guys discuss why you think so.

Right now I’d say Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. If Saul Alvarez continues to win title fights he may surpass him at some point.

    Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr.

Followed in no certain order by: Sanchez, Olivares, Saldivar, Zarate, Canto

Followed by Lopez, Barrera, Morales, Marquez

Too early to say on Canelo. There appear to be a lot of dubious circumstances in both the judging and PED use. And, a few fights certainly look like they could have been fixed. But, I do admit he is a very good fighter.

Chavez. Skills toughness, longevity. Not many boxes left to tick.

So, Alvarez is the discussion ahead of Juan Manuel Marquez? On the Classic forum? I'm leaving.

Juan Manuel Marqez didn't put together long unbeaten runs like Olivares or JCC, but he did leave an incredible resume, thanks to his longevity.

He scored probably the single greatest win ever by a Mexican fighter when he kayoed Manny. That was knockout of the year and fight of the year, and it was finally revenge over his nemesis.

He also beat: Manuel Medina, Juan Diaz (x2), Marco Antonio Barrera, Joel Casamayor, Michael Katsidis, Orlando Salido, Victor Polo, etc.

I'm a huge stan for Ruben Olivares, but let's face it...once you get past Lionel Rose, Chucho Castillo, and Bobby Chacon, the resume has a lot of empty calories.

For a start, it's extremely difficult to just look past two of the best bantamweights ever, and a highly talented, prime fighter. Furthermore, it's not even accurate. Olivares' résumé is excellent.

He beat fine bantamweight contenders like Rudkin, Sakurai, Medel, and Pimental. He beat top flight flyweights like Burruni and Torres, while also KOing future LW champion, Jose Luis Ramirez. At featherweight, aside from Chacon, he also beat Art Haley and Octavio Gomez.

    Olivares' résumé is outstanding.

Ah the old school Mexicans were fun to watch. Its tough question, If you ask an old man he'd say Olivares, a middled aged man he'd stay Chavez, a man even younger might say Lopez and some young Adult, Canelo. Every man has an argument.

    1. Julio Cesar Chavez
    2. Canelo Alvarez
    3. Ricardo Lopez
    4. Erik Morales
    5. Ruben Olivares. (My 4th all-time favorite fighter, really hard to put him at #5)

I know the question just asked for the best but I thought I would give a top five. I give JCC the top spot based on his record, quality of victories and longevity of fighting at a high level. Omitting Salvador Sanchez, Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez was really tough. Mexico has a fantastic top ten!

By the way, a lot of you probably already know this but I was surprised to see that Barrera was coming back next month after an almost 11 year retirement. He is taking on former featherweight and junior featherweight champ Daniel Ponce De Leon who has been retired for more than seven years.

If AUS gets to claim Kostya then it is fair Mexico can claim Jose Napoles.

He'd make the list, not the top guy but one of there best.

Do you think I have Canelo rated too low?
