In 1983 I would of picked Duran because he would have landed more than Starling did in his welter clash rematch with Curry, a fight that proved maybe elite fighters might have been a cut above Curry, Duran would of been more aggressive than Starling and his offense was more creative in the Moore bout, I don`t think Curry could take Duran`s constant solid shots, but after `83 Duran never gave a great performance again, he was good v Barkley and the hook that knocked down Iran would of stopped Curry but even though his hand speed was quicker than Barkley`s but not as quick as Curry`s, at light middle maybe Duran might have been quicker even in `89, but in `86 Duran was in a slump and lost to Robbie Sims who Curry would of destroyed, I don`t even know if Duran had the drive to make light middle in `86 and Curry`s jab and Reach would of bothered him I feel.

Good post mark. Actually thought most would assume Curry. But Duran would have being up for this whilst Curry ,maybe taking him lightly at that stage. So we may have seen a great performance and Duran putting the pressure on him. I wouldn't rule out a upset.Perhaps a little to much faith in Duran here and he's facing a top draw champion of the time so a lot against him.

I would favor curry. Duran would have trouble making 154 as he was inactive after the hearns wipeout and came back in 86 at over 160 lbs. He then lost to Robbie Sims. Curry was very comfortable at 154 lbs by 86. Curry by decision

Curry by decision in a tough fight.

Curry was basically a nice guy. Duran could be a true bad bass....when he wanted to be.
That is one reason why this fight is very hard to predict a winner.

Duran could beat Curry. it would be tough, but Curry did not give much lateral movement so Duran would get a punch in and when he landed he tended to keep it going. You had to get Duran out of his rhythm for the whole fight and not let him get his momentum started. Duran might have been too much of a fighter for Donald, who had lapses. Had Duran beaten Donald, his fans would be saying it was the greatest win of all time. That he decided to train for this fight.

although the punch Curry landed on McCrory after he had him down was devastating.. He went for broke with that one punch. But Duran looked for a weakness and went to town on it and build momentum on small things, which helped him.

the thing is the question would not be Duran, since Roberto would be motivated, this might be like the Benitez fight where Wilfred is too quick, but Curry had concentration lapses. Enough where Duran would figure something out maybe. And Curry could not knock out Duran like Hearns did. No way.

Curry used to fade in the second half of his fights, I think he had an illness that caused this, I will have to google it.

this is a tough fight to figure. Duran had problem with speed, but Curry standing in front of Duran could be a big problem. It could go either way. But Curry would have to be sharp and concentrate the whole fight to do well.

Duran still did well if he could exploit a weakness. He was the best I have ever seen of taking a small weakness and making it huge. He knew how to do it. What the greats he fought later did was, find their own small weakness and make it bigger.

    Agreed.

And Donald was no world beater at 154 himself. He was vulnerable, much more so than as a welter. I could see Duran using his head in there and busting up or swelling up Curry. Other guys did. Then he's in big trouble against a guy like Duran. But I think Duran does something like he did in the Moore fight to change the whole pattern of the fight.

I think this is a fight Roberto gets up for because he'd respect his opponent. That's a huge factor as well, being in top shape. But I sure did not like Curry's legs when he moved up to jr middle at all.
