A fully focused Wilfred Benitez takes Curry on points,at both weights. Benitez had more all round skill,I think.
I'll go with Curry at both weights, he's got the speed, timing and straight punching to exploit El Radar's lower guard. His patient aggression and command of distance would see him get his shots off and get in and out, he'd eat a fair share of punches himself but he'd outwork and outland and score the more telling blows. He has the better stamina down the stretch too
In a match-up, Curry's got the speed and power, while Benitez has the reflexes and anticipation (radar). Offense against defense, so to speak. Who's the tactically most astute, you'd say, and who's got the intangibles (and chin)?
Well, I expect Bruce Curry to knock down Benitez 3 times in their first fight and then to get outworked in the rematch, a duller affair. Oh, my bad, Donald Curry .... ....
curry wins both but p4p its closer. curry looked scary as hell at welter at light middle he didn't seem all there, became a inside fighter....for no reason either curry at welter is better than benitez at 147, crisper more athletic and agile, think benitez doesnt have th eone shot power to put him away, and i dont think benitez throws enough to cause any major concern to curry in the way of points...could be a VERy boring fight. the curry who was at 154 i think just try's to bomb him out with benitez just patiently waiting for him. but i think curry might outwork him and be able bully him and still jab away. i think that currys prime is superior to benitez prime, even though wilf primed young he had a lenghty career by then, i know that doesnt make sense though. that's ****ed me right up
I think its pretty close, Curry is well underrated imo, his early career was amazing and then fell off, he has his limitations, which Honeyghan exploited but Honeyghan is underrated himself. He wasn't peak against Honeyghan and Honeyghan had a short peak himself, he was an alcoholic but managed to kick the drink for the Curry fight and what a performance he gave. Didn't Curry go off the boil with a cocaine addiction? And did Benitez and Leonard for that matter.... Anyway I'm going O/T to compare best wins I think they are pretty much even Curry has Starling, McCrory, Rosi, Jones and Benitez has Duran, Cervantes, Hope, Palomino, B Curry (but did he lose?). Longevity pretty much even in holding world championships. Losses, well Curry's prime losses look worse, but Prime Honeyghan and McCallum were beasts, and Benitez arguably has a couple of losses to the inferior Curry brother. I read on here a controversal claim that Benitez actually weighed 147 on the scales against Cervantes who took back handers to agree to it. Not sure in the truth in that and I won't hold that against him I'd go with Curry H2H and P4P but I actually prefer watching Benitez at his best but being a fab 5 gets him an instant higher rating from most
I actually like Curry at WW to beat Benitez. He was sharp, fast, and didn't overextend in pursuit of anyone. Benitez has an awful time with that version of Curry. It's amazing how much less effective Curry was just seven pounds north of that, though. A bit of a bully at 147, he was now tossed around a bit at 154, not nearly as strong. His power had vastly less impact and he was all-around just a much lesser fighter. Benitez makes him look foolish at that weight.
I pick curry based on two factors: chin and punching power. It would be a very scientific chess match for the most part but eventually curry catches benitez flush, hurts him and puts him away.
Curry edges Benitez at 147, but loses a close unanimous decision at 154, being that he wasn't quite the same fighter after Honeyghan.
