(slightly embarrased) I just watched this fight for the first time and really didn't find it particularly close? Nor exciting....To me Starling got in close, quite frequently but rarely capitilized upon this. I am not sure why he didn't let his hands go more? Curry on the other hand seemed like he could have pitched a shut-out with his jab alone had he chosen to do so....again he did not let his hands go as often as I thought he should....To me the first 2 rounds of the fight were the most entertaining, and it slowed down considerably from there.....Not a bad fight, just not the classic that my mind had concieved it to be.....

Was there much controversy surrounding this SD (SRL & announcers had Starling ahead?)? Who did most feel won?

    Starling 1,5,6,11
    Curry 2,3,4,7,8,9,10,12

    Curry 116-112

Good thread Philly, Curry is one of my favs and so is his jab!..not his most exciting fight but I dont believe it was his fault...Starling was too cautious to let his hands go.

Curry won. Starling later improved and got stronger physically, which helped his game.

    Had it a draw myself.

Also thought it was a better fight than most give it credit for being.

Don't worry about him....he says that he is into gay porn and really found boxing boring....well, all except for the nude photo shop Marciano posters he collects.

I see!...well gay porn and semi boring boxing matches dont really stack up....do they!?...I wonder if its a picture of Marciano's body with his face on it that he pleasures himself to.

Curry just edged Starling. If I was Marlon's people, I wouldn't have fought Donald until 1983, when he possibly could have taken him.

Curry deserved it, though in watching it I really thought that had Starling applied himself a bit more and clowned less, he could have edged it. That was a winnable fight for him. The second one was just an example of Curry having blossomed more and Starling having plateaued; Curry was by then simply the better fighter, which makes the first fight a particularly bitter pill for Starling in retrospect. Looking back that first fight was one he would have liked to have back.

I thought it was a good fight, a masterclass of infighting from both. The decision was fair in my eyes.

Marlon was usually a Coaster in this fight it cost him, Later on he sometimes Turned Toaster... and was too hot for Breland and Honeygan, I do not think the Sterling Stomp help in any way, Not sure How Curry would of Done with Toaster Marlon.

Both guys were still developing. Curry improved as well. He peaked around 1985.

I watched it years ago and had Starling up by a point

Never saw it again. The rematch was a better fight.
