It's what I've been saying about a potential Froch match up, that I think Froch is too big and tough to be backed up by GGG. It seems like all his opponents have been running scared at some point in the fight, which leads to them getting spanked. I still think GGG takes a points victory over Froch, but basically, someone extremely durable who won't back down and has a great skill set can beat Golovkin. The only one I see that can do that at 160 or 168 is Ward.

At the same time though, you need to give credit to GGG for being able to always make his opponents fight scared. The ability to do that is all part of his skill set. Time will tell how future opponents handle his pressure and power.

it was a good move by his corner to do it for him.

too bad it's not done more often by trainers to protect their fighters.

You don't have a brain or eyes in your head - and if you have ever been in a fight it must have left you braindead considering the sh*t you write in this thread.

Stevens was not a quitter. The referee and Stevens' corner stopped the fight, if the fight had not been stopped Stevens would have been stopped in the very next round. Stevens tried very hard, was in the best shape of his life, but that wasn't enough. It takes balls to get up from the punch he took in round 2!

You want to see a beating? Watch the undercard heavyweight fight between perez and Abdusalamov

Mago suffered a broken nose, fractured cheekbone, and had a deep cut under his eye, and was taking a beating for most of the fight but STILL fought back and took it to the end. That is going out on your fuccking shield. Not walking back to your corner and not returning.

Stevens came to the ring wearing a cap with WAR written, he didnt go to war he was weak willed and quit. I mean he couldn't even look ggg in the fuccking face, after all the bravado he gave before the fight.

His face was no worse than mago's nor did he take too many power shots for his head to be rocking back. Trust me I don't want to see any figher suffer serious damage but stevens was able to carry on only his heart just wasn't in it. He should have continued after making light of death in the ring with his distasteful coffin pictures. He was willing to joke about ggg dying in the ring, but wasn't willing to fight to the death himself. What a fuccking scumbag who you should be ashamed of defending.

Everyone was shocked when his corner stopped it besides stevens.

Like people keep saying he wanted out, the ref asked him multiple times to respond, yet you he didn't which was asking for the ref to stop the fight.

Once the ref didn't give stevens what he wanted, he looked to his corner to do the ref's job. There was a pause between his corner throwing in the towel after the bell rang.

I have no doubt his corner quickly consulted with stevens whether he was ok to continue and but stevens didn't say **** so was left with no choice but to get him out of there.

Some fighters are cut some slack on here regarding quitting though, for example Kosta Tszyu.

Just going to post something Stephen Edwards said about quitting and "quitting" over on his mailbag.

It relates to Alvarado (who some dared call a quitter on here) but i think it applies to Stevenson as well.

Evander Holyfield once said that any man will quit under the right circumstances. And he was telling the truth. I’m glad you brought up Aaron Pryor vs Alexis Arguello and Manny Pacquiao vs Erik Morales. The common trend in those fights were successive brutal fights were the loser took punishment over a few fights and not just one. That falls in line with Mike Alvarado. In order he fought Breidis Prescott who is as big a puncher there is at the lower weight in an absolute war where his face was gashed open, Mauricio Herrera who is a tough sob in another high contact fight, Brandon Rios 2x, once he was stopped in a brutal fight and the next where he went 12 brutal rounds where he hurt repeatedly and then he faces Ruslan the Cold Killer.

What the heck else do these people want from Mike? Seriously I understand the man is a fighter and he knows what he signed up for. I get all of that. But maybe he thought he was dying. It can happen. All of these dam tough guys screaming he’s a quitter need to shut their dam mouths. A kid named Frankie Leal just died.

This is coming from a trainer who prepares their fighters to die in a boxing ring and I tell them quitting is not accpetable. I get up at 4am in the morning in the freezing cold so I can witness the preparation and not take their words. I understand what it takes and what the human body has to go through. But people are just so over the top with their basic general criticisms it sickens me.

I can remember when Gerald McClellan took his last knee against Nigel Benn. The damn announcers were suggesting he quit. Sure he quit, the man had brain damage and went legally blind. He felt his body leaving him. I have never been so aggravated with how cruel people are. When a man gives what Alvarado has given, he needs to be left alone.

He didn’t rob us of an event. He didn’t give us a con job or a bull**** excuse. He simply had enough and bowed out gracefully. He succumbed to the punishment over the course of some very tough fights. Leave him alone assholes!!!!!!!

Brother Naazim Richardson told me something that stuck with me. He said Steve if you ever get a fighter who tells you how he is willing to die and this that and the other, remind him of that when he is in the ring and death is approaching. Naazim told me a fighter with plenty of courage tried to quit in a fight and he had to remind of this. The fighter fought on but only after Naazim reminded him of his past statements. The fighter would have quit. Brother Naazim was 100% correct in reminding the fighter of what he said previously…..

Thanks for your comment and I wasn’t directing my anger towards you. But there are definitely degrees of quitting, and Alvarado did not quit.

There is no shame in quitting when you are getting beaten to a pulp and have nothing left.

The problem arises when the fighter is still in decent nick but is too weak willed to slug it out so takes the easy option to quit on their stool

It was one sided contest, but that was solely because curtis backed up and went on his bike

After the 1st kd curtis had his hands up 95% of the time, stinking up the joint and making ggg have to initiate the action.

Don't compare last nights fight to a figher getting beaten to a pulp to the point of getting brain damage.

Curtis wasnt taking clean shots all night as he was taking most of ggg's punches on his gloves. He just bitched out, plain and simple.

I think it's fair to say that a fighter's health always comes first. Stevens took a beating in the seventh and eight and was starting to ship increasing amounts of punishment.

Or...would you rather have both Abdusalamov and Stevens in a coma today?

    This :deal

Stevens did well to survive the 2nd round. He looked out of it. Then he took a load more punishment and was never gonna win. Good decision by his corner.
