DoubleEdge is a ****, if he were getting beat down by GGG like that he would have cried in the corner. In all seriousness, Stevens' corner did the right thing. And to reiterate how drug induced DoubleEdge was during the viewing of that fight, Stevens was literally half a damn metre away from his own corner after the round ended. No sulking No dropped shoulders No verbal communication suggesting he wanted to stop He simply turned around (yes, turned around, not even a step, since he was already in his corner) to his corner, where his trainer stepped up and immediately held a towel to Stevens' head and told the ref, who happened to be there, to stop the fight. DoubleEdge makes it seem like it was some kind of drawn out melodramatic affair where Stevens was suffering the most severe depressive episode in his life. It's likely that as soon as he turned to his corner, he held his arms onto the ropes waiting for his stool, but his team instead told him that they were ending the fight. Lay off the drugs next time bro.
Stevens could've threw in the towel a long time ago. To call him a quitter after seeing Magomed take what he took, and then seeing the punches that Stevens took from GG makes what armchairs say at times supremely ******ed.
Stevens talked a big game, but there is still no shame in not wanting to continue. Look at what's happening with Mago. He's in a coma. Alvarado, Stevens, Ortiz, and anyone else who quits is fine by me. Better to see them fight again instead of dead. This sport has seen enough dead warriors this year already.
His Corner did the right thing !! You're a got dame idiot if you think going out on your shield proves anything other then ruining a fighter and possibly risking his health. Curtis had nothing left to offer after taking those series punches in the last second in the 8th, had Curtis corner had allowed him to go out another round would been stupid.
I didnt expect him to last through the third round after the kd in the 2nd so to make it through to the end of the 8th on his feet was pretty impressive. Even when golovkin was hitting gloves you can guarantee that stevens would have been feeling it.
Fight talk before the fight is just that-fight talk. If the fighters can shake hands afterwards, and the fans can't forget the prefight talk, and want to rub in a guys win, so be it. You won't get any respect from real boxing fans. You didn't do the fighting.
Not a quitter after getting up from that KD, I don't think he was the same after that the entire fight. round 7 and 8 he was just getting battered the entire round against the ropes, no use in taking more punishment
not talking about the 8th round... the whole fight overall... what did he have to lose his perfect record... ydksab
:huh huh? what, the USA! USA! bit? because a couple of seconds before the KD, that's what the crowd were shouting. go back and watch it. i wasn't sticking the boot in, as i'd find that funny if it were a fight at home. as would you if you were to watch a fight from over seas and they did that. stop being so touchy. and no, i'm not this Arran guy. :rasta
Not sure what dumb****s around here who like to type on their keyboard about boxers quitting dont understand about that. Good post
Stevens' corner may very well have saved Stevens from brain damage.........Abdusalamov is in a coma, they had to take part of his skull out to reduce the swelling of his brain. Abdusalamov had a broken wrist, broken cheak bone, broken nose, etc., yet he kept fighting as he would not quit. The scoring on the fight should have been much closer, he probably has busted balls after taking all the low blows from Perez. Perez was not in good shape after the fight either. After having a broken wrist, etc., Abdulsalamov's corner should have stopped the fight like Steven's corner did. Now he will never fight again, if he lives..............Gerald McClellen would say the same...........
He fought the best fight he could when faced with a guy who was overwhelming him with volume and punching with power. He fired back when he could and managed to buy himself some time and make it a lot farther into the fight than he had any right to do after getting knocked into orbit in the second. But as time went on, his ability to survive and resist waned, and it could have gotten really ugly as time went on. Anyone who fails to see this really is in no position to cast judgement on another person's knowledge of boxing.
