This is done partially in response to the GGG/Lemieux thread. Even the most ardent Lemieux fan probably realizes how a fight like that would go... But it's also done because this could be a hell of a slugfest, if it ever gets made. Stevens, of course, made his debut at 160lbs on Saturday by waxing Elvin Ayala inside of a minute. It should be noted, however, that this wasn't the first time that Elvin's suffered a one round defeat...Lemiuex scored his own two kd, one round stoppage of the former title challenger back in 2010. Stevens has the edge in terms of durability, and is a more disciplined boxer, if not actually all that much better in terms of technique. He's also got a little more one punch power than his foe (though they both hit pretty damned hard). Lemiuex is faster and generally throws a higher number of punches each round than Showtime...who can be out-hustled and sometimes becomes enthralled with the idea of landing one perfect punch. So...who do you think takes this match-up...? :think
Who lands first? If it's Lemieux, no doubts in my mind that Stevens goes down hard (and maybe doesn't even reach his feet). If it's Stevens? Lemieux doesn't take punches as well; he'd probably by out cold.
Good call and good fight but no way would David fight S:nuttevens. He is too mentally fragile-and so is his management.
If I had to take a guess, Michel ain't about to put him in against someone who might hand him a loss right now. In fact both Promoters want to build up their guys with the big KOs 'til they can get a decent title shot. I suspect this is the reason Main Events are also holding out on the GGG fight. There's more $s to be made from (and for, hopefully) both guys by selecting fights where they're more likely to get the big KO. If I had to give an opinion on who would win, I'd have to go with Stevens more because as well as having the big KOs he's got more experience of going the rounds. Lemieux's always looked shaky when he's not got them outta the way quickly, and don't see Lemieux getting much chance to land his bombs while Stevens is also launching his. In a way it's coin toss fight, but I have to favour Stevens as having the greater resilience mentally.
How the hell is Lemieux ahead in the poll? :blood ...and by two votes until mine was cast? I mean, yeah, puncher's chance with his power and Stevens' chin - but his puncher's chance is negligible compared to Stevens'. (who, if you stripped away those wildcard qualities and gave both pillow fists and iron chins, is the superior boxer to start with...)
Curtis has been beat by some pretty poor fighters, and look at his KO% compared to David, pretty big spread.
Lemiex has been KTFO more recently than Stevens...and far worse. Put 'em the ring together and David gets shredded.:yep
Curtis can cover and counter better than David. Thats the difference in who lands first cleanly. Curtis ko, no count needed.
Woe now...! Don't get technical in your breakdowns or predictions Mo'fos around here don't know the first thing about boxing.
just trying to raise the quality of posts, even if i'm totally wrong, I at least try to give out an educated reasoning of my opinion. :yep
Hadn't voted yet myself. Poll corrected. Cos of the long layoff and drop in division, it's easy to forget Curtis is a decent fighter who was a prospect and had power even up to LHW. Still the losses show he can be badly outboxed, fair enough, but Lemieux isn't the one to do it - he lacks not only the skill, but the heart as wrell.
