Cus told Tyson that a small forward coming slugger would have no chance of beating. .

...... Foreman. Do you think this is why Tyson refused to fight him? People say he wasn't afraid because he fought hard hitting Ruddock but Ruddock was too scared to try and finish off Tyson where had Foreman stunned him he would have made damn sure he put him down for good. The only advantage Tyson had over Foreman was hand speed and that wouldn't even come into factor for this fight. Even Ali said Foreman would have destroyed Tyson in 4 or 5 rounds.

It was a lose-lose fight. Foreman turned down several offers to fight Tyson. Ruddock never put Tyson in a position to 'finish him off'. Tyson walked through him and beat the prime out of him for 19 rounds. Hand speed would weigh significantly -- Do you consider Tyson a relative featherfist? No? Okay, when he's landing at a 6:1 ratio and busting Foreman apart, it'll be a pretty big factor.

I'm sorry. This topic has just become overly redundant on here as of late. :-(

I don't get this whole 'Old-Foreman-beats-Tyson' revisionist movement either.

Foreman didn't want no parts of Tyson. Period. There is a reason his comeback was full of him fighting smaller, minimum power HWs and blown up cruisers.

alex stewart put foreman through hell. styles i know, but mike would have ripped the old man apart. Wouldnt have mattered though, people still wouldnt give him credit for it.

Tyson claimed Ruddock was a very powerful hitter, which he was, but I never saw him in trouble against him ... Tyson was always in control and knocked Ruddock down several times in both fights

I have never seen an actual source behind the alleged saying of Cus that a short forward going "slugger" could never beat Foreman. And that doesn't really fully depict Tyson that much as a boxer anyway ... yeah he was short and and came forward but he also was elusive and difficult to hit. Foreman doesn't have the hand speed or accuracy to keep Tyson away the whole fight, and lets not forget his age. He would probably try and push Mike around but eventually he would get within striking range and start throwing his combos.

Younger Foreman got away with a lot of pushing and shoving but the older version seemed to do it less. Guys like Frazier and Norton were destroyed because they had rather weak defense and average chins ... Frazier would bob and weave but was still very hittable ... And it was honestly Norton's chin that failed him in his fight with Foreman. Tyson has a better chin than both and is harder to hit than both.
