Headlining a card this Friday @ the Mattamy Events Center in Toronto. Clayton is ranked as the #11 welterweight in the world by the IBF and holds their Intercontinental title as well as the WBO's International...but Corley is unrated by any major org and thus ineligible to contend for either belt, thus no hardware on the line.

The hard-punching Canadian - who cross-trains in eastern martial arts - spent the bulk of 2018 as Terence Crawford's mandatory, although he never stood a prayer of landing that fight. Mind you, I'm not calling it a duck, and would heavily favor Bud in that match-up, but the fact is that Custio's name didn't pass through his lips once last year, and that's because the risk-reward quotient was atrocious. Clayton is now 31 and really needs to be chasing the big fights - maybe not Crawford level, but inching his way there - if he wants to cement a legacy and grab a world title before he calls it a day.

Corley knows all about being a world champ - although we have to rewind 16 years to reach his reign. After dropping his WBO super lightweight belt to Zab Judah in 2003, everybody's favorite slick & tricky journeyman would spend a solid decade in perennial contention and was a world rankings mainstay...but it has now been a while since those days. He is coming off three straight defeats. He is exactly the kind of known commodity on whose name Clayton needs to begin his ascent - even though a part of me will be rooting for Chop to pull off this one last upset....

I hope after getting stopped here (for only the 8th time in 85 bouts, for the record), Chop finally retires and lives out his days peacefully making a good living selling his sneakers. He's 44!!!!

I don’t think he’s going to get stopped, he hasn’t truly been stopped since Matthyse in 2011 if I’m not mistaken. I don’t think Clayton punches nearly as hard as Matthyse and Corley has become quite good at surviving and being negative to get to the final bell if need be. I also don’t think he’ll retire even though it’d be nice to see. Judging from whenever I see his Instagram, he seems to legitimately love fighting, kind of like Kevin Johnson.

One of the low key fights of the weekend I am hoping to be able to watch though. It’s not even the main event on the card surprisingly. Skorokhod-Zuniga is the headliner

Damn, really? Would have figured Teslenko vs. Maldonado if anything else.

Full disclosure. Clayton's from my neck of the woods (and a good guy according to some mutual friends), so I'd like to see him do well and secure a stoppage if at all possible.

That said, he's been a bit inactive after shutting out Danyo; and tends to be a bit patient in terms of approach anyway. Plus, Chop Chop is nothing if not crafty. So, I'd kind of be surprised if this doesn't go the distance. Probably another wide, near shutout decision for Custio.

Corley is this generation's Manning Galloway.

this is the same as Fedir Cherkashyn vs Kassim Ouma, the Ukrainian-Polish Middleweight prospect TKO'd Ouma at the weekend.

It'll be interesting to see if Clayton is on the same level as the next wave of top Welters such as Besputin, Kavaliauskas, Ennis, Butaev, Lejarraga, Stanionis, Giyasov

Custio had an offer from top rank for a 3 fight deal with crawford in the third fight but turned it down and lost his mandatory he is a big puss who wont ever amount to anything.the first fight of the deal was against kavialauskas i guess that was too dangerous for his taste now he is back fighting meaningless fights

Cool. I know on Clayton's FB page around that time he posted something to the effect of "Don't believe everything you hear", but he did eventually sign with Baxter.

500k for three fights is decent, but since he was already in the mandatory position maybe he figured he could either get Crawford first-or get him down the road for more money. Sounds like that was the reason for his refusal.

As a decades-long Corley fan I want to rankle at that statement and say that he isn't a meaningless fight...but, it's 2019, and he is on a three loss skid including the rematch with equally ancient Vivian Harris, so... I honestly can't... :xqw

Top rank has the wbo in their poket really they easily made him lose his mando status
Clayton is actually in contract breach by signing with baxter this case is in court or will be

Or they might have settled. Either way, we'll see what happens with Custio going forward.
